Strong domestic demand to sustain growth in near term: Moody’s Investor Service
Moody’s Investor Service, reaffirming its 6.7% growth forecast for the Indian economy for 2023. “With exports remaining weak amid an unfavourable global economic backdrop, strong domestic demand will likely sustain growth in the near-term,” the research firm said Thursday, predicting the Indian economy to grow 6.1% in 2024 and 6.3% in the subsequent year. Uttar Pradesh's air quality deteriorates to 'very poor' category
Air Quality Index (AQI) in Uttar Pradesh deteriorated from the 'poor' category to the 'very poor' category on Thursday, as per the data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). In view of the worsening air quality index, the Noida and Ghaziabad district administrations on Tuesday decided to discontinue all physical classes in schools apart from those for students of Class X and XII until Friday, in view of the worsening air quality conditions. The administration suggested that schools conduct classes in online mode. Meanwhile, the neighbouring Delhi government on Monday decided to reintroduce the odd-even rule from November 13 to 20 in view of concerns about deterioration in air quality. A decision on further extending the odd-even rule would be taken later. According to the 8-point action plan, there will be a ban on entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except for trucks carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services and all LNG/ CNG/ electric trucks). The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the hazardous air quality in the national capital and directed that farmers should stop stubble burning forthwith in Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, saying it was one of the major contributors to air pollution. Air pollution levels can be high during the winter months for a number of reasons, including dust and vehicular pollution, dry-cold weather, stubble burning, burning crop residues after the harvest season, and commuting.

Politics as unusual: Who’s afraid of an all-India caste X-ray?
general elections loom, the question is whether it can evoke a rush of fervour that could spell an upset at the 2024 hustings. In the view of some analysts, just as the ascent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a revolutionary path at first, with Hindu nationalism its rallying cry, so must the opposition find a heady issue, an arouser of passion, if it expects to shake today’s status quo. After all, expectations are rife of a third BJP victory.

A shift to defensives like FMCG & pharma apparent: Rohit Srivastava
Rohit Srivastava, Founder, Indiacharts.com, says “there is room for more upside but not a runaway move. 44,800 may be the best case for Bank Nifty, for example, on the upside right now. We are not looking beyond that. That could happen post-Diwali, looking at the way the market is pausing at this level right now.” Given that Nifty is range-bound and Nifty Bank again continues to appear to be weak, how are you looking at both the indices? Where can we find some breakout coming in both these indices? I think above 19,450 is going to be the first hurdle that Nifty is facing. We are pretty close to that and once we get past that, we should head towards 19,700. Even in the Bank Nifty, we are very close to the 40-day average, which is at around 43,680. And above that, we can go towards maybe 43,800 or slightly higher than that also.

Can Indian market's strong run continue? Here's what Morgan Stanley predicts
RBI’s target band in July and August on account of higher food prices, which raised investor concern about whether RBI would have to hike rate again to bring inflation back under control. However, the vegetable prices that spiked and led to this acceleration in inflation were of a short-duration nature and their prices have since reversed. Over the coming quarters, MS India economist, Upasana Chachra, expects that headline inflation will remain within the target range.
