OneWeb to soon seek trial spectrum to test satellite tech
OneWeb will shortly seek trial satellite spectrum from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in the ‘Ka’ (27.5 to 29.1 GHz and 29.5 to 30 GHz) and ‘Ku’ (14 GHz) bands to test its earth stations and user access terminals (UATs), senior company executives said. The company wants to test the infrastructure ahead of the India launch of its broadband-from-space services, targeted for later this year. The UK-based satellite player has started deploying ground infrastructure, including two gateway earth stations, and will use the trial airwaves to test network performance and user experience in key locations, especially in India's rural and remote regions with limited access to high-speed Internet. OneWeb is striving to get the first mover advantage over the likes of Elon Musk’s Starlink, Jeff Bezosled Amazon and Reliance Jio in the still nascent India satcom market with a high growth potential. EY estimates the country’s space economy to grow to about $13 billion by 2025 from an annual revenue opportunity of around $1 billion now. “Based on discussions with DoT, OneWeb will shortly apply for trial spectrum from the government to test its satellite broadband network … the company is on track to launch the services commercially later this year,” one of the executives told ET.

Disney’s Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Maleficent, Snow White’s Evil Queen, and Cruella were on the red carpet, along with influencers and other guests who were not actors. None of the Haunted Mansion cast members like Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stanfield, Danny DeVito, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Chase W Dillon, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner or Lindsay Lamb were present at the premiere. The premiere was held in front of the Disney theme park's Haunted Mansion ride. The movie’s director Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, executive producers Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman, and composer Kris Bowers walked the red carpet, but the cast skipped it in solidarity with the union. In view of the strike, the New York premiere of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer was canceled. The film’s UK premiere and red carpet went as planned in London, but the actors’ exited the venue just before the SAG-AFTRA strike was declared.

Ukraine bides its time in its counteroffensive, trying to stretch Russian forces before striking
Kyiv has not offered much detail on how it's going. Taking place mostly out of sight of impartial observers, the fighting in eastern and southern Ukraine pits troops equipped with new Western-supplied weapons against Kremlin forces that spent months digging formidable defences and honing tactics. Here's a look at what's happening after more than 16 months of war:What are Ukraine's tactics? Fighting has intensified at multiple points along the 1,500-kilometer (930-mile) front line. Ukrainian forces are making steady progress along the northern and southern flanks of the wrecked city of Bakhmut, which Russian forces have been occupying since May. Battles are also raging along the southern front in Zaporizhzhia, where Ukrainian forces are making minimal gains and coming up against formidable Russian fortifications. Hanna Maliar, Ukraine's deputy minister of defense, recently claimed that Kyiv's forces had destroyed six Russian ammunition depots in the space of 24 hours, a remark that hinted at Ukrainian tactics.
