Provident security Myanmar China pushes for expediting SEZ in Myanmar's Bay of Bengal zone
China is pushing to expedite construction of its stalled Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in western Myanmar's Rakhine state aimed at ensuring smoother access to the Bay of Bengal. The initiative could potentially cast a shadow over India's strategic interests in the region where it has been a traditional net security provider even as a belligerent Beijing has been seeking a foothold. Myanmar's military junta and Chinese state-owned company CITIC recently signed an addendum to the concession agreement for the Kyaukphyu SEZ and deep sea port.

HARBIN, China, — China's annual Ice and Snow Festival, with its fairy-tale ice sculptures, opened on Friday attracting throngs of tourists who shuffled carefully over the slippy ice and snow and dragged their children in sledges around the park. markets Waves economy Trade consequences testing 2024 Xi Jinping Faces an Economic Test of Will in 2024
If the most important development of 2024 will be the wave of elections sweeping the democratic world, the second-most important story to watch is China’s economy. It boils down to two questions: What is it that has steeled Xi Jinping’s nerve to drive China into this—possibly necessary—economic turmoil, and can he keep his resolve over the next 12 months? The deterioration of the Chinese economy is, perhaps surprisingly for anything involving China, reasonably well understood. The country has never recovered from the twin shocks of a Beijing-induced property-market slowdown and the draconian (and failed) zero-Covid policy of the pandemic era.
