Hoax bomb threat: Delhi govt issues advisory for schools
Delhi government issued an advisory for schools on Wednesday, asking them to ensure that the e-mails received at their official e-mail addresses are checked timely, after at least 100 schools in the capital and neighbouring Noida received a hoax bomb threat. At least 100 schools in Delhi-NCR received an identical bomb threat by e-mail on Wednesday, triggering mass evacuations and massive searches as panick-stricken parents rushed to pick up their children. The threat was declared a hoax as «nothing objectionable» was found during searches, police said. «In view of the current situation wherein bomb threats were received by a few schools of Delhi in early hours of morning of 01.05.2024, it is advised that School Administrators/Managers/Heads of Government/Government Aided and Unaided Recognised Schools under the Directorate of Education, GNCT Delhi should ensure that emails/messages received on official email id of the school at any time of the day (before, during or after school hours) are checked timely,» read the advisory issued by the Directorate of Education.

Chinese smartphone brands are roping in services of Reliance Retail’s distribution arm to reach retail stores in the hinterlands. Xiaomi sub-brand Poco recently roped in Jio Mart Digital (JMD), through a strategic partnership to distribute Poco devices to over 80,000 retail stores across the country, according to industry executives and retailers. The move comes amidst the offline retail channels claiming over 61% of sales in Q1 2024, according to preliminary estimates from Counterpoint Research, up from 56% the previous quarter. Samsung and Vivo have the strongest hold over offline retail, the research firm said, adding that Xiaomi and Transsion were the fastest growing in Q1 2024.

CBI conducts nationwide operation against app based investment scheme
CBI has searched 30 locations across 10 states and union territories after registering a case in a fraudulent investment scheme linked to the HPZ Token App, officials said Wednesday. The agency has alleged the scheme involved misleading the public to invest in non-existent crypto-currency mining machine rentals. The nationwide operation ended Tuesday night. Two private companies, Shigoo Technology Private Limited and Lillian Technocab Private Limited, along with their directors were booked in the case under Indian Penal Code Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) 419, 420 (cheating) and Section 66 D of Information Technology Act, 2000, officials said. The CBI seized digital devices, including laptops, mobile phones, ATM and debit cards besides a trove of email accounts, during the searches spread across Delhi-NCR, Jodhpur in Rajasthan, Mumbai in Maharashtra, Bengaluru in Karnataka as well as locations in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key accused in the Rs 700 crore Attari border drugs seizure case, taking the total number of arrests in the matter to eight. An official statement issued on Wednesday said the accused, Athar Saeed alias Chacha, had handled the proceeds of the drugs on the directions of the kingpin, Shahid Ahmed. Saeed was arrested on Tuesday after the NIA teams searched his premises in Delhi's Daryaganj and seized incriminating documents. The documents are being examined by the anti-terror agency to unravel the complete conspiracy behind the massive drugs racket, the statement said.
