Adani Group Chairman, Gautam Adani paid a visit to Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Saturday after the full load commencement of power supply to Bangladesh from the group’s thermal power plant in Godda, India. The new project of the conglomerate will mark the group's entry into transnational power projects. This project will also commence India’s first commissioned transnational power project where 100 per cent of the generated power is supplied to another nation.Adani Power Jharkhand Ltd (APJL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd, will supply 1,496 MW from the Godda USCTPP under the PPA with the Bangladesh Power Development Board, executed in November 2017 for a period of 25 years, via a 400 kV dedicated transmission system connected to the Bangladesh grid. The subsidiary completed the dependable capacity test for the Godda plant on 12 July.

Bangladesh and India on Tuesday launched a much-anticipated trade transaction in rupees, a move aimed at reducing dependence on the US dollar and strengthening regional currency and trade. This is the first time Bangladesh has done bilateral trade with a foreign country in addition to the US dollar.Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder described the start of trade settlement in rupees as the «first step in a great journey».

Bangladesh follows a «balanced and independent» foreign policy and is not subservient to any country, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Saturday, emphasising that his country was «not China's tail». Momen also said that its relations with next-door neighbour India are «rock-solid» and added, «We are in a golden chapter in our relations with India». «Some people think we are rushing towards China, but (actually) we are not heading towards anyone,» Momen said while speaking at an interaction with members of the Diplomatic Reporters Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at the Foreign Service Academy here.

Ikramul Haque alias Abu Talha was arrested in Bangladesh along with his wife in a raid recently, Bangladesh daily Prothomalo reported. Ikramul Haque was apparently arrested from the Sabuj Bagh area of the capital Dhaka. He was arrested on May 30, soon after the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) officials of Dhaka came to know that Abu Talha, the top leader of the Dawah wing of the international terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), got involved in militancy while studying in Deoband, India.
