2023: The year Indian art came into its own
NEW DELHI : In 1937, Amrita Sher-Gil, an Indo-Hungarian artist, painted The Story Teller. The oil-on-canvas painting depicts an intimate rural scene, with village women huddled together in a courtyard, their faces relaxed and smiles easy. The cosy setting also features cows and a calf, a dog lazing under a charpai, a little boy, and a man in a doorway. That November, Sher-Gil sold the work to Badruddin Tyabji Jr., a diplomat bearing the same name as his grandfather, the third president of the Indian National Congress, at an exhibition in Faletti’s Hotel, Lahore.

WPL Auction 2024: Kashvee Gautam picked for Rs 2 crore; who fetched big money and who went unsold
Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh triggered a huge bidding war in the second session of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 Auction with Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz spending big bucks to get them in their team. Kashvee Gautam went for Rs 2 crore while Vrinda Dinesh, a batter from Karnataka, picked for Rs 1.3 crore. Gujarat Giants made a winning bid of a whopping Rs 2 crore for Kashvee Gautam, a 20-year-old allrounder from Chandigarh, making her the joint-most expensive player with Annabel Sutherland of Australia in the first phase of the WPL 2024 auction. A right-handed batter and a right-handed medium pacer, Kashvee has recently played for India A against the England A women in three T20Is in Mumbai and it appears that the scouts of the franchises have seen something that they feel makes the player a mega pick. Gujarat won her after a fierce bidding war with U.P Warriorz, who are one of the franchises with deep pockets in this Auction Vrinda is known as a consistent batter who has done well in the local leagues in Karnataka and UP Warriorz went for her outbidding Gujarat, Mumbai Indians and Delhi. Vrinda has been a prolific scorer for Karnataka over the last two domestic seasons, earning praise for her ability to balance consistency with her powerful power-hitting up front.

NCLT admits plea to initiate insolvency against Sahara Group entity Sahara Q Shop
Sahara Q Shop Unique Products Range Ltd, the FMCG and retail arm of Sahara India Pariwar, under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) and has appointed Udaykumar Bhaskar Bhat as the resolution professional of the company. The development comes within a month of the passing away of Subrata Roy, founder of Sahara Group, at the age of 75 in Mumbai. The Sahara Group company had entered into a service agreement with the Sigma Supply Chain Solution for handling, storage, maintenance, administration, distribution and arrangement of goods from the Sahara Q Shop at different places across the country. Originally, the company’s operational creditor Sigma Supply Chain Solution Pvt Ltd had approached the tribunal in December 2021, after the company had defaulted on its dues of over Rs 4.75 crore. “The order of moratorium shall have effect from the date of this order till the completion of the corporate insolvency resolution process or until this Bench approves the resolution plan,” said the division bench of judicial member Kishore Vemulapalli and a technical member Anu Jagmohan Singh in its order of December 6. Before the tribunal’s order, Sigma Supply Chain Solution, through its counsel Nausher Kohli argued that it had addressed various emails to the company about outstanding amounts of dues and payable by the Sahara Q Shop and the company neither disputed nor denied the same. While countering this, advocate Sandeep Bajaj, appearing for the Sahara Group company argued that the application is barred by limitation since the cause of action first arose in the year 2013 and the operational creditor had applied in the year 2021. A total of 7,058 companies across sectors were brought into administration until
