India developing Chabahar Port holds 'great value' to landlocked Central Asian states: PM Modi
Iran's Chabahar Port not only holds «great value» to landlocked Central Asian states but also «de-risks» commerce between India and Eurasia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Astana to attend the SCO Summit, delivered Modi's remarks at the extended format meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State here in the Kazakh capital. He also said, «While standing resolute on challenges, it is equally important to actively and collaboratively explore avenues of progress. The current global debate is focused on creating new connectivity linkages that would better serve a rebalanced world.» «If this is to gather serious momentum, it requires the joint efforts of many. It must also be respectful of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and be built on the foundation of non-discriminatory trade and transit rights to neighbours.»

EAM Jaishankar on Astana declaration: SCO’s tough terror stance a win for India
Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana contained the most robust language ever on cross-border terrorism as well as strong references to territorial integrity linked to connectivity corridors in the region, external affairs minister S Jaishankar told ET. He described this as the most satisfying outcome of the summit from India’s viewpoint. “I am happy that Kazakhstan during their chairmanship negotiated an updated programme to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism, which was adopted in the Astana summit,” the minister said. “What is more important is the actual implementation of the programme that we have now successfully drawn up, which includes unambiguous commitment by all the member states in getting rid of all forms and manifestations of terrorism in the region, including cross-border terrorism.” The summit was held in the Kazakhstan capital on July 3-4.

South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that this unusual incident happened on May 17. The thief managed to get into the office, stealing a watch and a laptop. Before leaving, he wrote a note for the owner, advising them to upgrade their security system, according to Shanghai police. The police identified the thief as Sang. He climbed the building's wall to get in and stole a watch and an Apple MacBook. While inside, he gathered mobile phones and laptops, piled them on a desk, wrote a note, and left it under the pile of devices. «Dear boss, I took a wristwatch and a laptop. You should improve your anti-theft system. I didn't take all the phones and laptops, fearing it might hurt your business,» Sang wrote. At the end of the note, he added, «Contact me if you want your laptop and phone back,» and left his number.

What's behind India's hardening posture against China?
Modi government in its third term might harden its posture against the neighbour with which relations have been hostage to heightened border disputes ever since skirmishes between Indian and Chinese forces along the border in 2020. PM Modi is likely to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Kazakhstan in the first week of July where he might run into China’s President Xi Jinping. Shortly before a possible meeting between the two leaders, India seems to be hardening its posture against China. The two meetings between Modi and Xi after the Galwan clashes at the G20 Summit at Bali in 2022 and the BRICS Summit in South Africa a year later failed to yield any positive results. Thousands of troops remain deployed on either side of the Sino-india border .
