Iran president-elect ready for 'constructive dialogue' with Europe
Iran's president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian said he looks forward to improved relations with European nations, even though he accused them of reneging on commitments to mitigate the impact of US sanctions. Pezeshkian on July 6 won a runoff election against ultraconservative Saeed Jalili. The 69-year-old has called for «constructive relations» with Western countries to «get Iran out of its isolation», and favours reviving the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and global powers.

How Iran defied the US to become an international power
The winner of Iran’s presidential election will inherit domestic discord and an economy battered by sanctions, but also a strength: Tehran has more sway on the international stage than in decades. Iran, under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s leadership, thwarted decades of U.S. pressure and emerged from years of isolation largely by aligning itself with Russia and China, giving up on integration with the West and throwing in its lot with two major powers just as they amped up confrontation with Washington.

Iran rebukes G7 statement over its nuclear programme escalation
Iran called upon the Group of Seven on Sunday to distance itself from «destructive policies of the past», the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said, referring to a G7 statement condemning Iran's recent nuclear programme escalation. On Friday, the G7 warned Iran against advancing its nuclear enrichment programme and said they would be ready to enforce new measures if Tehran were to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia. «Any attempt to link the war in Ukraine to the bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia is an act with only biased political goals,» Kanaani said, adding that some countries are «resorting to false claims to continue sanctions» against Iran.

Iran’s brisk walk to a nuclear bomb
Iran keeps making substantial progress in its brisk walk to an atomic weapon, a United Nations report leaked Monday suggests, and what are they going to tell us next—that there’s gambling at Rick’s? Yet the Biden Administration wants to hide this scary truth from the world in this election year. An International Atomic Energy Agency report has concluded that Iran has increased its stockpile of near-weapons-grade uranium to 142.1 kilograms—an increase of 20.6 kilograms since the IAEA’s last estimate in February. This will be enough for three warheads once Iran completes the technologically straightforward process of enriching its hoard to 90% from 60%.
