BRUSSELS—European Union officials are seeking the power to impose an emergency cap on the price of natural gas on the bloc’s main trading exchange, part of a package of proposals to cushion consumers from high prices and fill storage tanks next year ahead of winter.

Crypto tokens were back in action on Friday after the inflation numbers, though remained in the range prior to the data. However, the digital asset market recovered from their initial cuts.Bitcoin inched towards the $20,000 mark, whereas Ethereum reclaimed $13,000-levels. Trading volume has spiked suddenly which supported the gains in the crypto assets. All the crypto tokens were trading higher on Friday. Uniswap zoomed more than 12 per cent, whereas XRP and Shiba Inu rallied 7 per cent each. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Polygoon added 4 per cent each. The global cryptocurrency market cap was trading higher at $915.55 billion, jumping more than 3 per cent in the last 24 hours. However, the total trading volume jumped more than 91 per cent, almost doubled, to $86.66 billion.

The global cryptocurrency market unexpectedly sparked into life on Thursday despite negative inflation data following the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) being released.

The United States Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 8.2% annually in September, beating economists’ expectations of an 8.1% rise. The CPI print lived up to its hype and caused a sharp, but short-term increase in volatile risk assets. 

The crypto markets saw surprise volatility on Thursday and Friday despite the US Consumer Price Index coming in worse than expected.

Bitcoin (BTC) delivered more surprises on Oct. 14 as the reaction to macro triggers saw a sudden run at $20,000.

Shiba Inu price is down 2.5% on Friday amid a general crypto market pullback. The second-largest meme coin is yet to stop bleeding as investors react to the United States Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. The CPI is the benchmark for inflation in the world's biggest economy.

Cardano was one of the biggest losers after the US Consumer Price Index was released on Thursday.

During the early Asian session, major cryptocurrencies were trading in the negative, as the global crypto market cap fell 0.05% on the previous day to $918.19 billion. Over the last 24 hours, overall crypto market volume fell 9.88% to $44.13 billion. 

Manchester City Fan Token (CITY) has declined by 5% in the past 24 hours, dropping to $5.87. This level represents an 8% decline in a week and a 12% fall in a month, with the Chiliz-based token suffering from the ongoing negative investor sentiment that has plagued much of the market in 2022.

The price of Ripple’s XRP token is in the green for the past 24 hours, after buyers bid it up from a strong support zone yesterday. And although $0.50 may be a stretch today, the significant price level could be in play once highs from this week are taken out.
