Israel-Gaza War: Hamas boss Yahya Sinwar's calculated effort, illusions in distracting Benjamin Netanyahu explained
Bloomberg report. In the wake of Hamas’s long-planned and brutal October 7 assault on Israel, the Israeli security establishment is looking back on his words in a new light: as part of an effort to create the illusion that Hamas, considered a terrorist group by the US and European Union, was limiting its embrace of violence to focus on governance. Israeli officials now acknowledge that a sense of complacency had set in around Hamas.

ET Explains: Apple's RCS adoption and how it will affect Indian users
Nothing said it is launching a mobile application to support blue chat bubbles on iMessage for Android users, US tech giant Apple announced it will adopt RCS (rich communication services) messaging standard, which will be enabled via a software update “later next year”. ET explains what this means. Apple’s software update will enable a range of iMessage-like features for messaging between iOS and Android users. Experts see this as a big step closer to making texting more inclusive for cross-platform communications. “Later next year, we will be adding support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard as currently published by the GSM Association. We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS,” Apple said in a statement. “This will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.”

Qatar says challenges to Israel-Hamas hostage deal are 'just logistical'
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said on Sunday he had growing confidence that a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas would be reached, adding challenges that remained were «very minor». «The challenges facing the agreement are just practical and logistical,» Sheikh Mohammed said at a joint press conference with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in Doha. The Washington Post, citing people familiar with the deal, reported that Israel, the United States and Hamas militants had reached a tentative agreement to free dozens of women and children held hostage in Gaza in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. officials said no deal had been reached yet. Reuters said on Nov.

Charting the global economy: Expectations of global growth improves, but rebound remains fragile
Inflation eased in both the US and UK, prompting bets that central banks on both sides of the Atlantic will start cutting interest rates by the middle of next year. Meantime, expectations for growth across Europe are improving, but the rebound remains fragile in the European Union’s east. The economic recoveries underway in China and Japan are also shaky given slowing consumption, among other factors. Here are some of the charts that appeared on Bloomberg this week on the latest developments in the global economy: US US inflation broadly slowed in October, which markets cheered as a strong indication that the Federal Reserve is done hiking interest rates.

Jaishankar is right about India's choice of Russian oil cooling global inflation
insurance companies would support Russian oil exports only if the export price was at or below $60 a barrel. The US stopped importing Russian oil altogether. According to Brugel, a Brussels-based European think tank, the EU used to account for nearly two-fifths of Russian oil exports, even as Russia accounted for 13% of global oil exports in 2021, the year before the war.
