Siemens India to spinoff energy operations
Siemens Ltd.’s board on Monday approved a proposed demerger of its energy business into a separate unit, the company said in a regulatory filing. The Indian unit of the German engineering firm Siemens AG also approved the immediate incorporation of a wholly owned unit in Mumbai. A subsidiary would be incorporated to implement the planned demerger, the company added. Promoters — including Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, Siemens International Holding, Siemens Energy Holding, and Siemens Energy Aktiengesellschaft — requested the Indian unit’s board to consider and evaluate the demerger. ''The BoD has approved the immediate incorporation of a wholly-owned subsidiary in Mumbai, India (proposed subsidiary), on the basis that the proposed subsidiary may be required if and when the Board decides to implement the aforesaid demerger,'' it said. The development comes a month after Siemens AG said it will buy an 18% stake in subsidiary Siemens Ltd for €2.1 billion (about Rs 18,955 crore) in cash. Siemens Ltd is the Indian joint venture between Siemens Energy and its parent Siemens AG.

The Bill for Bigger Government Is Coming Due for World’s Taxpayers
Rich countries are raising more money from taxpayers than they have in decades to finance a burst of state spending as surging interest rates make borrowing less attractive. Tax revenues have risen to record levels as a share of economic output in a number of major economies, including France, Japan and South Korea, according to data published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the club of mainly rich countries. The increases are worth hundreds of billions of dollars in additional revenue for governments that are navigating an array of new spending needs, from military priorities to industrial policy.

Social capital can help close a wide MSME gap
In his inaugural address to the first Industrial Conference in Pune in 1890, Mahadev Govind Ranade noted that “the industry of the country is parched up for want of Capital" because after land revenue, a considerable portion of gross savings was used to hoard bullion. The lack of institutional arrangements for industrial finance meant that capital was locked up in unproductive assets and not available to India’s entrepreneurs. A century later, the German economic historian Dietmar Rothermund came to a similar conclusion.

China faces 'middle-technology trap', warns official think-tank
China of a potential «middle-technology trap» unless it opens doors «wide open» for new investments and scientific innovation to deal with increasing containment in the ongoing tech war with the US. «China's manufacturing sector is still in the downstream of the global value chain, and it faces a risk of being hamstrung at the low and mid-end by developed countries such as the United States, Germany and Japan,» the Chinese Academy of Sciences said in its latest report released during the weekend.

ChatGPT 4 vs ERNIE Bot 4.0 of China: What we know about Artificial Intelligence (AI) bots?
ERNIE Bot 4.0, developed by the Chinese technology giant Baidu, is positioned as a contender alongside the widely acclaimed chatbot GPT-4. Introduced in October and made available to paying subscribers in November, ERNIE 4.0 represents an enhanced iteration of Baidu's initial ChatGPT competitor, as per a CNN report. While ERNIE is primarily tailored for use in Chinese, it is capable of handling English queries at a less sophisticated level. In contrast, GPT-4 is specifically optimized for English but possesses the versatility to address inquiries in additional languages, including German. This diversity in language capabilities sets the two advanced chatbots apart in their respective applications, CNN reported.
