Average air ticket prices spike 9 pc in Jan-March period: FCM Travel
air ticket prices in India spiked 9 per cent in the first quarter of 2024, primarily on account of general increase in travel demand and «much stronger» economic growth, according to Australian Securities Exchange-listed FCM Travel. At the same time, FCM Travel said there was a 20 per cent jump in the premium class bookings in the January-March period compared to the same period last year, driven by sectors such as manufacturing IT as well as conglomerates. «Domestic air capacity has increased more than 3 per cent but due to the demand in travel, we have seen average ticket prices increase by 9 per cent which is attributed to a much stronger economic growth and a general increase in demand for travel,» said Sunny Sodhi, Managing Director of FCM Travel India. Popular domestic routes for business travel include Delhi to Mumbai, Mumbai to Delhi, and Bengaluru to Mumbai, he added.

BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi declared that the BJP's reign will end on June 4, ushering in a return to prosperity for the nation. Addressing a rally, Rahul emphasized that only seven days remain for the 'fake fakir' who deceives the public. «After June 4, it's Goodbye BJP, Goodbye Narendra Modi. The country will break free from the BJP; better days are on the horizon — Fata Fat, Fata Fat,» Rahul asserted. Rahul also criticized Modi for his 'sent by God' remark. Welfare schemes, policies in India not oriented towards poor: P Chidambaram
Congress leader P Chidambaram on Tuesday said the various welfare schemes and policies in the country are «not pivoted to the poor». Chidambaram said an egalitarian society can be created only if the schemes and policies are oriented towards the poor. The former union minister was speaking on the topic 'Inclusive Growth: Myth and Reality' at the M P Veerendra Kumar Commemorative event organised by the RJD here. He said, «Unless we understand the economic and social hierarchies that mirror each other, and reorient our policies towards the bottom, especially the SCs, STs and other depressed sections, it will not be possible to call us an egalitarian society». He pointed out that the present society is not equal or reasonably equal, fair or just. «Not that it can never be. You can build an egalitarian society. Purely capitalist and rich countries have built egalitarian societies,» he said.

Shraddha Walkar murder case: Delhi cops file supplementary chargesheet
Delhi police have filed a supplementary chargesheet containing more digital and forensic evidence reports to nail Aaftab Amin Poonawala, who stands accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and dismembering her body, court sources said on Tuesday. The nearly 3,000-page chargesheet was filed before metropolitan magistrate Aviral Shukla, they said. Poonawala is alleged to have strangled Walkar and chopped her body into pieces in the national capital's Mehrauli in May 2022 before scattering the body parts in different areas of the city to escape detection. He has been charged under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code.

The rising importance of the chief trust officer
Sriraman Parthasarathy, Partner, Deloitte India, says, “The role of CTrO involves overseeing trust-building initiatives by continuously assessing the trust levels within and outside the organisation. The trust framework chosen by the organisation would typically include several domains covering interalia corporate culture, employee satisfaction, compliance, digital, customer experience, etc. While trust building is a collective responsibility within the company, having a CTrO often makes one person directly accountable to the board, due to the critical and overarching nature of the role.” Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO, TeamLease Edtech, explains that the underlying reasoning for this designation is the rising importance of trust in today’s world. The pace of digital transformation, increasing polarisation of media, geopolitical uncertainty and increasing expectations of stakeholders make trust a top-of-mind issue for executives. As more business functions seek to demonstrate trust, the chief trust officer has emerged as a strategic leader to help build trust across the organisation and the surrounding ecosystems.

Urbanisation led to 60% more night-time warming in Indian cities than non-urban areas: Study
night-time warming in over 140 prominent Indian cities compared to non-urban areas surrounding them, a new research from the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar has found. According to the research, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Rajkot had the highest urban effect, while Delhi-NCR and Pune were found to be at the fourth and fifth position, respectively. Urbanisation is known to be responsible for the urban heat island (UHI) effect, in which the concrete and asphalt (used in constructing roads and pavements) surfaces store heat during the day and release it in the evening, thereby raising night-time temperatures. Over time, this heat further affects other aspects of climate, including rainfall and pollution, researchers said in the study published in the journal Nature Cities.

Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar should consult senior party leaders on MLC candidates: Parameshwara
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and State Congress chief D K Shivakumar should consult senior party leaders like him regarding selection of candidates for the MLC polls. The statement comes against the backdrop of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar's trip to New Delhi today to discuss with the party high command candidates for biennial election to 11 seats of Karnataka Legislative Council on June 13. «The Chief Minister and KPCC President are in responsible positions. It is appropriate if they consult seniors like us. Without consulting if they both decide on their own, it is not right according to me. Those with seniority and experience, both in the party and the government and having contacts, should be consulted. They have to discuss with us,» Parameshwara said.

Why Indians borrowing more and saving less shouldn’t worry you
DK Joshi, Chief Economist, CRISIL, says what is currently playing out is that when the households put money in financial assets, they are moving a little away from the bank deposits towards higher paying assets like mutual funds or stocks or for that matter they could be acquiring more gold right now, and so there is that change of preference taking place towards financial assets that offer you higher returns that could even be small savings. You have come out with a note where you have made some observations regarding the citizens and the country's working class and their savings versus borrowing behaviour. What is a bit surprising and I would say a bit worrying also is that the borrowing growth rate is way higher than savings growth rate. Is it a worrying trend? DK Joshi: What happened since the pandemic struck is that during the pandemic we had no option to consume, so we were saving. After that, savings slowed down a bit and consumption picked up. That was the broad trend. But coming to the savings part, there are two things happening.

BJP's '400 paar' claim 'bakwas', won't cross 200 seats: Mallikarjun Kharge
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed the BJP's '400 paar' claim as «bakwas», or nonsense and said the party will not cross 200 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. Addressing the media in Amritsar, Kharge said the BJP's seats were declining as compared to the last elections while the Congress and the INDIA bloc were making gains. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has been claiming that it will get over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Replying to a question on it, Kharge asked the basis of such claims by the BJP.
