ultra-high-speed rail (UHSR), or hyperloop. The concept was first published by Elon Musk in a 2013 white paper, 'Hyperloop Alpha'. Hyperloop envisions pods carrying passengers or cargo in near-vacuum tubes at speeds approaching that of aircraft. Reduced friction and magnetic levitation enable significantly abbreviated travel times, reducing energy consumption and emissions compared to traditional modes. India commissioned a 422-m hyperloop test track — the world's longest — in December 2024, developed by Avishkar Hyperloop at IIT Madras, in collaboration with the Indian Railways and L&T Construction. Last month, TuTr Hyperloop, another IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech startup, working with Swisspod Technologies, conducted India's first commercial hyperloop pod test run.

bilateral trade agreements. Accompanying political energy and encouraging words reflect a dramatic departure from sobering scepticism of the recent past. The big change is, of course, Donald Trump's unsheathing of tariffs. Inevitably, trade negotiations with the US are the principal driver. Not every trade agreement will be uniform. Concessions will likely vary, depending on strategic vulnerability. As India's most consequential business, technology and foreign policy relationship, the US will get priority in timing and substance. This is rooted in realism. It's the same approach every other major trade partner of Washington will take. In a volatile world, marked by American recalibration and retrenchment, there are significant gains to becoming among the earliest countries to find accord with the Trump administration. Gains will be both tangible and intangible.

Celebrity band performer classical song singer Times when Bollywood met British Royalty: 'Dhoom Machale’ is not the first Indian song to resonate in the palace
Dhoom Machale—the high-energy Bollywood anthem synonymous with thrilling chases and grand heists—playing in the presence of British royalty sounds almost too surreal to be true. But at this year’s Commonwealth Day ceremony at Westminster Abbey, that’s exactly what happened. As King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived for the annual event, the distinctive notes of Dhoom Machale filled the air, played by the Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band—a Hindu Scottish ensemble known for blending traditional bagpipes with Indian musical influences. The unusual yet electrifying fusion stunned onlookers, and when a video of the moment surfaced online, it sent Indian social media into a frenzy. Many joked that this was Hrithik Roshan’s latest disguise, referencing his royal impersonation in Dhoom 2, while others saw it as poetic justice—Bollywood’s way of reclaiming cultural ground in the land of its former colonizers. Beyond the humor, however, the performance symbolized something deeper: the ever-growing cultural footprint of Indian music in spaces once considered exclusively Western.

UPS FIVE Manufacturing pandemic reports Will HAL finally gain speed after getting GE engines for Tejas following multi-year delay?
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is gearing up to ramp up production of the Tejas Mark-1A, India's indigenously developed fighter jet, after years of delays worsened by issues with engine supplies from the United States, according to a TOI report on Thursday. The first of the 99 engine shipments arrived on March 26, 2025, after General Electric's (GE) aerospace division overcame significant challenges, including reactivating the F404 production line, which had been dormant for five years. This marks a major milestone, but HAL still faces numerous challenges in meeting the ambitious delivery timelines for the fighter aircraft, which is crucial for India’s military preparedness. In response to the ongoing delays, HAL has intensified its efforts to scale up production, with three production lines in operation, said the TOI report. The company’s facilities in Bengaluru and Nashik are expected to play a crucial role in increasing production capacity. According to the report, HAL is confident that it can scale up to a rate of 20 Tejas per year, with plans to further boost production to 24 units annually.

Digital CEO Platform security Sustainability War Interviews Kotak CEO reveals a lot on RBI cuts, deposit wars and banking’s next big moves
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expected to announce another rate cut in April, and its impact on bank fixed deposit (FD) rates remains a key question. Ashok Vaswani, Managing Director and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, in a interview to ToI said he believes that while the previous 25-basis-point cut has not yet led to lower deposit rates, a total reduction of 50-75 basis points could start influencing term deposit pricing. He expects significant movement in the banking sector over the next 6-12 months. Deposits remain a critical focus for banks, with last year witnessing a competitive battle for attracting funds. Vaswani acknowledges that securing deposits is not just about volume but also pricing. To sustain growth, Kotak Mahindra Bank is leaning on product innovation, customer-centric offerings, and its digital platform, 811. However, liquidity constraints persist, making it too soon to determine whether conditions will improve. The bank continues to monitor macroeconomic trends closely.
