End of tax benefits worries French FPIs
NEW DELHI : A meeting between Indian and French tax authorities on the sidelines of a recent G20 summit has set off alarm bells among foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) based in France, three people with direct knowledge of the matter said. The meeting, around potential tweaks to the double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) between India and France, has led to apprehension among foreign funds that India may soon renegotiate the treaty to eliminate the capital gains tax exemption. Currently, France and the Netherlands are the only major jurisdictions benefiting from a tax treaty with India that grants exemption from capital gains tax on share sales.

A $7.5 billion derivative trade shifts to India as SGX feud ends
SGX Nifty, the Singapore Exchange Ltd.-traded futures on India’s key equity NSE Nifty 50 Index, will be known as GIFT Nifty from July 3, and all outstanding orders will be transferred to the GIFT City, the new financial hub in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The switch from SGX to the NSE International Exchange at GIFT or Gujarat International Finance Tech-City also highlights partial success of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led administration’s attempts to attract India-centric trading that had moved to global financial centers such as Dubai, Mauritius and Singapore to its shores.

The Philippines will launch pilot wholesale central bank digital currency project
The project will be led by an intersectoral domestic team, Diokno said, as well as “external advisers from international standard-setting bodies and multilateral institutions to build on training and knowledge sharing on CBDC development and implementation all over the world.” Diokno called the project “critical in constructing the BSP’s medium- to long-term roadmap for more advanced wholesale CBDC projects that will further strengthen the Philippine payment system.”
