Hungary's parliament ratifies Sweden's NATO bid, clearing the final obstacle to membership
Hungary's parliament voted Monday to ratify Sweden's bid to join NATO, ending more than 18 months of delays that frustrated the alliance as it sought to expand in response to Russia's war in Ukraine. The vote, which passed with 188 votes for and six against, was the culmination of months of wrangling by Hungary's allies to convince its nationalist government to lift its block on Sweden's membership. The government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban submitted the protocols for approving Sweden's entry into NATO in July 2022, but the matter stalled in parliament over opposition by governing party lawmakers.

Capitalism varies across as well as within individual countries
There is a large literature on the varieties of capitalism seen around the world. In their Introduction to the much-cited volume on Varieties of Capitalism (Oxford University Press, UK, 2001), Hall and Soskice classified capitalist countries into two broad groups: Liberal market economies (LMEs) such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and coordinated market economies (CMEs) such as Germany, France, Japan, Sweden and Austria. In LMEs, firms coordinate their interaction with each other and other stakeholders through hierarchies and the market.

Assange in last-ditch bid to block US extradition
Julian Assange will make one last attempt to block his extradition to the US, where he faces decades in prison over spying charges in the long-running battle that's spanned more than a decade. The WikiLeaks founder asked a London judge for permission to appeal the UK's 2022 decision to extradite him to the US where he's charged with criminal espionage for leaking classified documents. His lawyers argue that sending him to the US would breach his human rights while other supporters say it would be an attack on free speech.

Hungary set to ratify Sweden's NATO bid on Feb 26 after long delay
Hungary's ruling Fidesz party proposed on Tuesday that parliament should vote to ratify Sweden's bid to join NATO on Feb. 26, a move that it would support. «Our group wishes to support» Sweden's NATO bid, the Fidesz party said in a document, asking the Speaker of parliament to include the vote in its agenda next Monday. Fidesz has a huge majority in parliament. Sweden applied to join NATO nearly two years ago, in a historic shift in policy prompted by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
