Putin says Russia could hit 'decision-making centres' in Kyiv with new missile
Oreshnik hypersonic missile to attack «decision-making centres» in Kyiv in response to Ukraine's firing of Western missiles at Russian territory, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday. Russia has not so far struck Ukrainian government ministries, parliament or the president's office in the course of the 33-month war. Kyiv is heavily protected by air defences, but Putin says the Oreshnik, which Russia fired for the first time at a Ukrainian city last week, is incapable of being intercepted — a claim greeted with scepticism by Western experts.

Russian Defence Ministry says Moscow's forces take another east Ukrainian settlement
Defence Ministry said on Wednesday its forces had taken control of the settlement of Nova Illinka, close to the embattled Donetsk region town of Kurakhove in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine's military made no mention of Nova Illinka in its daily dispatches. The town lies on the opposite bank of a reservoir from Kurakhove, one of the focal points of a steady advance through Donetsk region by Russian forces. But Deep State, a popular Ukrainian blog tracking the movements of the armed forces, said more than a week ago that Nova Illinka had fallen into Russian hands.

Trump taps retired general Keith Kellogg for key Ukraine conflict role
Trump campaigned on a platform of ushering a swift end to the Ukraine war, boasting that he would quickly mediate a ceasefire deal between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. But his critics have warned that the incoming Republican will likely leverage US military aid to pressure Kyiv into an agreement that left it ceding occupied territory permanently or agreeing not to join NATO.

Is the war over and will Ukraine surrender? Russia is advancing in the country at the fastest rate since 2022
Ukraine at their fastest rate since the early days of the 2022 invasion while they have already captured approximately 235 square kilometers (91 square miles) in just the past week, reported Reuters. This actually marks a record for the year 2024, with eminent analysts noting that Russian troops have taken control of near about 600 square kilometers (232 square miles) throughout the month of November. According to Reuters, the front line which had been largely static for two years is now seeing renewed activity, specifically in the Donetsk region where Russian forces are pushing towards key towns such as Kurakhove and Pokrovsk. The situation is becoming increasingly precarious while reports are claiming that North Korean troops are being deployed to support the Russian operations. Reuters asserted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has indicated that Russia's main objectives include occupying the entire Donbas region and pushing Ukrainian forces out of areas they have controlled since the month of August.

Satellite images suggest North Korea expanding missile plant, researchers say
The facility, known as the February 11 plant, is part of the Ryongsong Machine Complex in Hamhung, North Korea's second-largest city, on the country's east coast. Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), located at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, said the plant was the only one known to produce the Hwasong-11 class of solid-fuel ballistic missiles. Ukrainian officials say these munitions — known as the KN-23 in the West — have been used by Russian forces in their assault on Ukraine.
