Google, earlier in the day signed a memorandum of understanding with the visiting Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin at its Mountain View office in California in the presence of senior company officials including Google Cloud Vice-President and Head of Platform Amit Zavery, Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa among others. Under the MoU, Google would work with Guidance (the state government backed nodal agency to promote investments) to support the development of a robust AI ecosystem in the state. This includes providing access to advanced technologies and resources, with an emphasis on empowering individuals, businesses and government entities to leverage AI for inclusive growth and progress, a company statement said on Saturday.

Google Cloud on Monday ramped up its criticism of Microsoft's cloud computing practices, saying its rival is seeking a monopoly that would harm the development of emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence. Microsoft and Amazon have recently attracted scrutiny in Britain, the European Union and the United States over their market power in cloud computing. Google trails a distant third behind the two leaders.

This request emerges amid broader scrutiny of the cloud computing industry dominated by Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) in various global regions, including the UK, European Union, and the United States. Google's push for regulatory intervention was detailed in a letter to the CMA, which Reuters obtained.

Tech giant Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has partnered with Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) to allow users to pay for cloud services using crypto. A select group of customers will now be able to make payments with Bitcoin, Ether, and Dogecoin. In response to the news, Coinbase's stock rose over 7%.
