S Jaishankar and Russia’s first deputy prime minister Denis Manturov will hold a brainstorming session in Delhi on Tuesday to explore sectors for India’s investments including in Far-Eastern Russia and increasing trade to reduce trade deficit, which is currently in Russia’s favour owing to huge oil exports. They will also discuss measures to smoothen the rupee-ruble payment mechanism. While the mechanism is functioning, large volumes of transactions often face delay due to limitations of the transaction mechanism. Also on the agenda is a free trade agreement between India and Eurasian Economic Union, according to people familiar with the matter. Besides, Russia is exploring to invest in India through some of the accumulated rupees, they said. “On November 12, in New Delhi, Denis Manturov jointly with Minister of External Affairs of India Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will hold the 25th session of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation. As part of his visit, the First Deputy Prime Minister also has a number of bilateral meetings planned,” said a statement issued by the Russian Embassy in India.

Denis Manturov called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and the two leaders exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in various areas, such as trade and economic ties, energy and connectivity. Russia, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar signed three documents relating to the Kudan Kulam Nuclear Power Plants, an MoU on cooperation in pharmaceuticals and healthcare and a Protocol on Foreign Office Consultations according to a release of the Ministry of External affairs. The EAM was on a visit to Russia from December 25 to 29 as a part of the ongoing high-level exchanges between the two sides. India’s top diplomat is expected to meet with Russia's deputy prime minister Denis Manturov and foreign minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit, which ends on 29 December.

Russia will sooner or later legalise cryptocurrencies as a means of payment, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said on Wednesday, suggesting that the government and central bank may be moving closer to settling their differences.

Russia will legalize crypto payments “sooner or later” according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov.

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has stated that it wants to create a legal system that would oblige Bitcoin (BTC) and crypto miners operating in the country to prioritize domestically produced mining hardware and apps – and buy from Russian providers when possible.
