The all-party parliamentary group for crypto and digital assets has called for urgent measures to regulate crypto in the UK and wants the government to consider appointing a 'crypto tsar' to ensure efforts across various departments with a stake in the sector are coordinated.

UK Member of Parliament (MP) Lisa Cameron called for increased digital training regarding Web3, AI, and blockchain technology in a debate Tuesday, to increase the country’s “necessary talent pipeline” and bolster the UK crypto economy .

The finance minister of the United Kingdom has pledged to look into the reported difficulties faced by licensed cryptocurrency firms in opening business accounts in the country. 

A parliamentary group in the United Kingdom has published its recommendations to the government for the crypto and digital asset sector. The list of recommendations includes the appointment of an official who will ensure a coordinated regulatory approach to crypto and digital assets. 

Lisa Cameron, a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom since 2015, may not have used the Bitcoin Lightning Network in her time as a lawmaker, but spends a lot of her time in office focused on digital assets.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The Bank of England, effectively the United Kingdom version of the Federal Reserve, has raised interest rates by the highest rate in 33 years.

The United Kingdom moved forward on the Financial Services and Markets Bill on Oct. 25, hardening its vision for Bitcoin (BTC) cryptocurrency and “digital settlement assets” in the country.

The United Kingdom could be warming to Bitcoin (BTC) and crypto. Taking a timeout from Scotland’s first major Bitcoin conference, Cointelegraph spoke to Lisa Cameron, a Member of Parliament who is spending more and more time working with digital assets. Cameron told Cointelegraph:

The United Kingdom Crypto and Digital Assets All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) announced Thursday its upcoming inquiry on the country’s crypto and digital asset sector. The announcement included details of the group’s plans and how interested parties can participate. 

The cross party group, chaired by Dr Lisa Cameron MP, which is made up of MPs and Lords including the likes of former Digital Minister Lord Vaizey, member of the Treasury Select Committee Harriett Baldwin MP, and former Secretary of State Matt Hancock MP acts as a forum for parliamentarians, policymakers and the UK crypto sector to discuss policy and regulation of the industry.The terms of the inquiry are expansive, assessing the role of Government and regulators, consumer protection issues and the use of central bank digital currencies.The APPG inquiry comes at a time of increased scrutiny of the UK crypto and digital asset sector. HM Treasury announced plans earlier this year to make the UK the global home of crypto investment, seeking to attract crypto firms to the UK and to boost the nation's technology and fintech sector.

It will also look to address challenges for the sector including creating a regulatory framework that supports innovation and growth while addressing issues such as consumer protection and economic crime.Lisa Cameron MP, chair of the new group, says: "We must ensure that we have an appropriate regulatory framework in the UK which supports innovation and guarantees that the UK remains an attractive destination for innovative firms to set up and grow.
