Essar Group, Shashi Ruia, passed away at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of transformative leadership and innovation. The Ruia family, in a statement, said, “It is with profound grief that we inform of the passing of Shri Shashikant Ruia, Patriarch of the Ruia and Essar Family. He was 81.” Shashi Ruia was known for his humility and philanthropy. The family added, “His humility, warmth, and ability to connect with everyone he met made him a truly exceptional leader. Shri Shashikant Ruia’s extraordinary legacy will remain a guiding light for all of us.” «With an unwavering commitment to community upliftment and philanthropy, he touched millions of lives leaving an enduring impact,» said Ravi Ruia, Shashi's brother with whom he founded Essar Group, and family members.

Essar's Ruia family seems to be an exception. Three generations of the Ruia family — founder brother Shashi and Ravi Ruia, their children and grandchildren — continue to live under one roof and jointly run the business empire. They share the family homes in Mumbai, Delhi and London as well as business that now spans energy, metals and mining, infrastructure and logistics and technology and retail.

₹310 crore on matured cumulative redeemable preference shares (CRPS) since 26 August 2018. Such shares give holders the right to receive dividends even if the issuing company has missed out on paying them in the past, as per broking firm Angel One. The ₹310 crore liability arises out of the contract signed between the two firms in 2010.

Ruia's family office purchased the Hanover Lodge mansion overlooking Regent’s Park at 150 Park Road in July through a sale of the home’s Gibraltar-incorporated holding company, the report added.

Ravi Ruia bought a £113 million ($145 million) London mansion linked to Russian property investor Andrey Goncharenko in one of the UK capital’s biggest residential deals in recent years. The family office of Ruia, who co-owns investment firm Essar Group, purchased the Hanover Lodge mansion overlooking Regent’s Park at 150 Park Road this month through a sale of the home’s Gibraltar-incorporated holding company, according to a person familiar with the matter. The mansion was owned as recently as two years ago by Goncharenko, the former deputy chief executive officer of Gazprom Invest Yug, a subsidiary of the Russian state-run energy firm. He bought the property’s outstanding lease in 2012 from Conservative Party peer Rajkumar Bagri for £120 million, the person said. The property “is under construction and became available at a price which makes it an attractive investment for the family office,” William Rego, a spokesperson for the Ruia family office, said in an emailed statement. The deal was first reported by the Financial Times.
