ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company reported a lower new business margin on Tuesday, hurt by persistent decline in demand for high-value policies and as customer preference shifted towards low-margin products. Value for new business (VNB), the expected profit from new policies, fell 19.5% to ₹22.27 billion ($267 million) for the year ended March 31, dragging the VNB margin to 24.6% from 32% a year earlier. Life insurers have seen a rising share of low-margin unit-linked insurance plans (ULIPs) amid a strong domestic equity market.

The apex court also took a dig at Patanjali Ayurved’s public notice tendering unqualified public apology, asking if the size of the apology put out in 67 newspapers was similar to its full-page advertisements that it normally issued for its ayurvedic products. It asked Patanjali to bring on record within two days the “original” apology published in newspapers so as to check the size of the advertisement. “Cut the actual newspaper clippings and keep them handy. For you to photocopy by enlarging, it may not impress us. We want to see the actual size of the ad. When you issue an apology, it does not mean that we have to see it by a microscope," a bench comprising justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said.

Tata Consumer Products on Tuesday posted its fiscal fourth quarter earnings with profit at Rs 267.71 crore, down 22.5 per cent on-year in comparison to Rs 345.58 crore during the fourth quarter of FY23, missing estimates. It posted revenue from operations at Rs 3926.94 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2024, up 8.5 per cent as against Rs 3618.73 crore during the same period last year, with strong performance in India business, which grew 10 per cent. According to a CNBC TV18 poll, Tata Consumer Products was expected to report Q4 profit at Rs 315 crore and the revenue was estimated at Rs 3991 crore during the quarter in review.
