COVID-19 were recorded in Maharashtra on Friday, the health department said. The number of patients infected with the JN.1 variant remains at 10. According to the Public Health Department of Maharashtra, 80,23,487 COVID-19 patients have been discharged after full recovery. The recovery rate in the state is 98.18 per cent, while the case fatality rate in the state is 1.81 per cent. Out of 8,76,06,207 laboratory samples, 81,72,533 have tested positive (9.33 per cent) for COVID-19 until today. Since January 1, 2023, 137 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in Maharashtra.

Retail inflation for industrial workers increased marginally to 4.98 per cent in November compared to 4.45 per cent in October this year, mainly due to higher prices of certain food items. NEW DELHI : Output of eight core infrastructure sectors expanded 7.8% in November, but the growth was the slowest since June 2023, official data showed on Friday. This represents a decrease from the 12% expansion seen in October and is down from the 5.7% growth recorded in November last year. Shares of most of these companies, except for ACC and Ambuja, have had a strong run in 2023, gaining between 23-51% so far in the year helped by demand from infrastructure and housing projects. Sales volume for the industry is likely to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 5% between 2023-26 (Apr-Mar), a 100 basis points higher than the 4% growth seen over the last decade, the brokerage said.

OSIRIS-REx is now "already well on its way with a new name to explore a new destination (Apophis)", the NASA said. In a statement on December 22, the US space agency said, "The former OSIRIS-REx spacecraft sets off on a (seven-year, 4 billion-mile journey) journey to study asteroid Apophis and take advantage of the asteroid’s 2029 flyby of Earth, the likes of which hasn’t happened since the dawn of recorded history." When Apophis was discovered in 2004, the asteroid was gained notoriety as one of the most hazardous asteroids that could impact Earth.
