India ready to provide all possible help to end Russia-Ukraine conflict: PM Modi to Putin
Narendra Modi on Tuesday, during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, said that India has been in touch with all sides on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and that «India is always ready to help bring peace». In his opening remarks at the meeting with Putin on the eve of the BRICS summit, Modi said, «We have been in touch with all sides in the Russia-Ukraine problem. It has always been our position that all conflicts can be solved with dialogue. We believe there should be peaceful solutions to conflicts. India is always ready to help bring peace.» These remarks must be viewed in the context of Modi's earlier conversation with Putin on the Ukraine conflict and his two meetings with the Ukrainian President since August. Following his visit to Kyiv, Modi telephoned Putin to share his thoughts and later NSA also met Putin and apprised him about the PM's trip. While India has not created a peace formula like Brazil and China, New Delhi has been in touch with all stakeholders to end the conflict through negotiations and pitched for Russia's presence in peace summits for durable peace.

Putin plans big Indian soft power promotion; to discuss Indian movies in Russia with Modi
soft power quotient will get a boost with Russian President Vladimir Putin planning to discuss promotion of Indian cinema with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting Tuesday on the eve of the BRICS Summit here. Putin recently said Indian cinema is more popular in Russia than entertainment from any other BRICS country. Russia has a dedicated TV channel that plays Bollywood movies «day and night», he said. This was the first time Putin has brought up the issue of the soft power quotient in the India-Russia partnership. Bollywood movies have been extremely popular in the erstwhile Soviet Union. Raj Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Hema Malini are cult figures across the ex-Soviet republics. Yet Russia has not been chosen by the Indian film industry as a location for film shootings.

War in Ukraine: Russia grateful for concern expressed by PM Modi, says Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin said he was grateful for the concern expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the war in Ukraine. Asked at a media interaction here whether he saw a role for India in negotiating peace between Russia and Ukraine, he referred to his interactions with Modi, whom he described as a «friend», and said his country was grateful for this. Putin said it was difficult to specify a timeline on ending the war, and setting one will be difficult and counterproductive. The Russian leader blamed America and NATO for pushing Russia into the war, and said his country will prevail.

Russia tests readiness of nuclear missile unit
intercontinental ballistic missiles in a region northwest of Moscow, news agencies quoted the defence ministry as saying on Friday. The Yars, which can be deployed in silos or mounted on mobile launchers, has a range of up to 11,000 km (6,835 miles) and is capable of delivering multiple nuclear warheads. Russia has carried out a series of nuclear drills this year in what security analysts say are signals intended to deter the West from intervening more deeply in the war in Ukraine.

US election 2024: Has Donald Trump spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin?
Donald Trump has refused to say whether he's spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin since leaving office, as reported in journalist Bob Woodward's latest book. But if the two did speak, Trump said, it would be “a smart thing” for the United States. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, was pressed on his communication with the Russian president during a wide-ranging — and sometimes contentious — interview with Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait at the Economic Club of Chicago. Woodward reports in his book “War” that Trump has had as many as seven private phone calls with Putin since leaving the White House and secretly sent the Russian president COVID-19 test machines during the height of the pandemic. A Trump campaign spokesperson previously denied the report. During Tuesday's interview, Micklethwait posed the question to Trump directly: «Can you say yes or no whether you have talked to Vladimir Putin since you stopped being president?

China exports growth slows in blow to economy’s bright spot
China’s export growth unexpectedly slowed in September, curbing a trade rebound that has been a bright spot for a weakening economy that policymakers are relying on manufacturing to power. Exports climbed just 2.4% in dollar terms from a year earlier to almost $304 billion, the lowest level since May, the customs administration said Monday. Shipments to key markets including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan all fell, while exports to the European Union and the US marked their slowest rise in at least four months as politicians ramped up tariffs. Russian purchases of Chinese goods soared to a record $11 billion, as Beijing continues to shield Moscow from economic isolation after Western companies producing everything from cars to phones quit President Vladimir Putin’s nation due to sanctions to punish his military aggression.
