Turn to dark horse bets as the market corrects: Vidya Bala
Vidya Bala, Co-Founder, PrimeInvestor.in, says “in terms of sectors, we are looking more keenly in sectors like consumption in pockets, not the traditional FMCG but more some of the discretionary spending spaces. We are also looking at the banking and financial space which did not participate last year. Three key factors – credit, e-commerce and social media enablers – will democratise purchasing power and with that, players like Jio Finance are very well placed to capitalise with the kind of obvious breadth that they have. You could call these dark horse bets. But again, in a market that is brimming with confidence, it is very hard to say otherwise. A corrective phase is when you sit back and decide whether you can handle these kinds of stocks.” What is your market outlook? Where are you investing right now? Vidya Bala: At this point in time, we would call ourselves being cautiously optimistic.

Corruption or politics? SC weighs new bribery case as more clashes are brewing
WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court for years has been making it more challenging for prosecutors to bring corruption cases against public officials, guided by the belief that some of the dealmaking and fundraising in the political realm is unseemly but not illegal. ED is doing a good job, 97 per cent cases are against those not involved in politics: PM Modi
Modi said that the maximum number of cases registered by the Enforcement Directorate are against those persons and entities who have no connection with politics. In an interview with ANI, Prime Minister Modi said that honest person has nothing to fear about but those involved in corruption has «Paap ka dar» (fear of sin). «How many opposition leaders are in jail? No one tells me. And is this the same opposition leader… who used to run their government? There is fear of sin (paap ka dar hai). What fear does an honest person have? The country should understand that political leaders are involved in only 3 per cent of the ED cases and 97 per cent of cases are registered against the ones who do not belong to the politics,» Prime Minister said.

NFRA), the regulatory body overseeing auditors and audit firms for listed and large companies, has taken action against Pathak HD & Associates (PHD), the joint auditor for Reliance Capital, formerly an Anil Ambani group company, along with its two auditors. This move comes in response to multiple failures highlighted by the resigning auditor, Price Waterhouse (PW), which also flagged suspected fraud amounting to Rs 12,571 crore by the company. Reliance Capital recently underwent a change in ownership, being taken over by the Hindujas after significant concessions by lenders. This development follows the Reserve Bank of India's decision in November 2021 to replace the board of the Anil Ambani Group company due to governance concerns and defaults in payments.

21 retired SC, HC judges write to CJI against attempts to 'undermine' judiciary
Supreme Court and high courts penned a letter to the Chief Justice of India, expressing deep concerns over what they perceive as mounting efforts to erode the credibility and independence of the judiciary. In their missive, the retired justices address the «escalating attempts by certain factions to undermine the judiciary through calculated pressure, misinformation, and public disparagement,» highlighting the gravity of the situation at hand. «These critics are motivated by narrow political interests and personal gains and are striving to erode public confidence in the judicial system,» they said. Though the retired judges, including four from the Supreme Court, did not specify the incidents which prompted them to write to the CJI, their letter came amid a war of words between the ruling BJP and opposition parties over the actions against some opposition leaders in corruption cases.
