Bollywood votes: Cinema in the shadow of elections
NEW DELHI : Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come, except when everyone has the same idea. Over a five-week stretch starting 25 January, I saw the same scene play out thrice on the big screen in three different films. First came Fighter, which had a recreation of the attack by a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber on a Central Reserve Police Force convoy at Pulwama in 2019, in which 40 soldiers were killed.

US techie sues TCS for discrimination against Americans and favouring Indians on H-1B visas
TCS) in the global consulting practice, has taken legal action against the tech giant, alleging discriminatory employment practices. In a lawsuit filed in a US court, Devorin claims that TCS exhibits bias towards H-1B visa-holder employees of Indian/South Asian origin while targeting older American workers for termination to make room for Indian nationals and «freshers». Devorin has demanded a jury trial to address these allegations of discrimination. According to the complaint, Devorin was informed in July last year that his team was disbanded, and he was required to apply for a consultant role directly on an engagement. Despite his persistent efforts through emails and applications, Devorin's attempts did not progress beyond the initial stage. He believes that the resource management group intentionally hindered his applications. In contrast, a younger Indian employee swiftly secured a role and was offered multiple positions, none of which were extended to Devorin.

Biden says US support for Philippines, Japan defense 'ironclad' amid growing China provocations
Biden said Thursday that U.S. defense commitment to Pacific allies was «ironclad» as he gathered Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the White House in the midst of growing concern about provocative Chinese military action in the Indo-Pacific. The U.S. and the Philippines have had a mutual treaty in place for more than 70 years. Biden's forceful reinforcement of the American commitment comes in the midst of persistent skirmishes between the Philippine and Chinese coast guards in the disputed South China Sea. «The United States defense commitments to Japan and to the Philippines are ironclad. They're ironclad,» Biden said as he began three-way talks at the White House with Kishida and Marcos. «As I said before, any attack on Philippine aircraft, vessels or armed forces in the South China Sea would invoke our mutual defense treaty.»
