Fed hawks and doves: What US central bankers are saying
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the bigger-than-expected reduction was a sign of confidence that inflation is headed back to the 2% target and should not be seen as any indication of the pace of cuts going forward. Here is a look at the latest comments from Fed policymakers, sorting them under the labels «dove» and «hawk» as a rough shorthand for their monetary policy leanings, as best as can be figured. A dove is more focused on risks to the labor market and may want to cut rates more quickly, while a hawk is more focused on the threat of inflation and may be more cautious about rate cuts.

Sharp bull run in real estate; private capex to pick up in infra: Varun Saboo
Varun Saboo, Head, Equities, Anand Rathi, says the entire realty space has also entered into a very strong and sharp bull run. There is a clear shift from individual residential buildings to large complexes, etc, where there is very little inventory and thus pricing will keep moving higher and it will take a number of years for this to get corrected and that is where the strength lies. Real estate is going to remain a very strong flavour and it is not going to change anytime soon. What about infra and L&T in particular? Varun Saboo: Undoubtedly, in infra, L&T is the best name, the bellwether name that we have and in terms of the hope that there the private capex cycle will also pick up. I see L&T to be a key beneficiary there as well.

Fed's Barkin says price pressures may not fade as fast as expected
inflation to its 2% target may take longer than expected to complete and limit how far interest rates can be cut, Richmond Federal Reserve President Thomas Barkin said on Wednesday. In an interview with Reuters, Barkin said he supported the half-percentage-point rate cut the Fed approved last month and agreed the benchmark rate could fall perhaps by another half a percentage point by the end of this year to take account of how far inflation has declined.

Largecaps in Nifty 50 and Nifty 100 have stable growth prospects: Deven Choksey
Deven Choksey, MD, DRChoksey FinServ Pvt. Ltd, says for those stocks which are not going to have the higher amount of growth rate attached to it, the valuations will probably get moderated. There may not always be a price correction, but a possibility of time correction is there and Choksey would like to play safe. At this point of time, some of the largecap companies within the Nifty 50, Nifty 100 basket, remain relatively more solid, more sure about the growth prospects going forward. Some of the large cap companies within the Nifty 50, Nifty 100 basket, remain relatively more solid, more sure about the growth prospects going forward. What is the outlook when it comes to the broader markets versus the frontliners because as per the historical data, it seems like the broader markets are likely to take a leap ahead as compared to the frontliners for the month of October. Do you reckon it will be the case this time as well? Deven Choksey: I believe that the valuations are going to be the driving factor year after. Whenever you find stretch valuations in the broader market, be it in the midcap or a smallcap either, I guess the market would not be very easy to accept that premium valuation.
