Alcohol brands tap world of art to woo younger drinkers
Dom Perignon hosted a party at the Brant Foundation in New York City's East Village, thousands of miles from its home in the Champagne region of France. At the party, which celebrated Dom Perignon's partnership with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, actresses Zoe Kravitz and Natasha Lyonne, model Evan Mock and Raul Lopez, the designer of the subversive Luar fashion label, sipped Dom as they swayed to music from the Mudd Club habitue DJ Justin Strauss. The Basquiat painting «In Italian,» a neo-expressionist work filled with gestural scribbles and stark images-faces, coins, dark creatures and cryptic words like «teeth» and «crown of thorns»-hung on one wall. Throughout the room were bottles of a limited-edition release culled from a 2015 Dom Perignon vintage with labels that mirrored Basquiat motifs, including his signature crown in yellow overlaid in a way to suggest a connection between the artist's work and Dom Perignon's own shield-shaped tag. «I think people are looking for more than just the experience of consuming,» said Jacques Giraco, MD at Dom Perignon, speaking of his company's decision to evoke the image of an artist synonymous with the gritty downtown scene in 1980s New York. «It becomes a total experience. It conjures emotion, and that creates a stronger link with the brand.»

It is still a sell-on-rise market; see Nifty@21,300 by end year: Jai Bala
Jai Bala, Chief Market Technician, Cashthechao.com, says he expects the Nifty to hit somewhere to about 21,300 by the end of the year and the banking index to hit somewhere close to 42,000 with an intermediate pause at about 49,000 and 47,000. The Dollar index will be about 109 for the end of the year. The 10-year yields for the US would be about 5.5% by the end of the year. By 2026, the 10-year yields will hit about 800 bps. That is the medium to long-term forecast for the global markets and the macros. Bala also says retail investors should raise as much cash as possible as they can get in and get out of the market much faster than the institutions. Is there any ray of hope for the markets and what can really provide a sigh of relief at this juncture? Jai Bala: I had spoken to you around the time when China's stimulus was on and at that time I had mentioned that the Nifty was likely to drop to somewhere close to 21,300 and when people are focusing on China's stimulus, we should have been focusing on the India correction which is about to set on. I have been holding the view from the 1st of October that this decline is likely to take the market to somewhere close to the June 4th low. So, we are set for further decline to come through, although there could be a counter trend bounce along and the market has just printed the 200-day moving average and so we could see a slight relief. But the markets are still on sell on rise.

KL Rahul & the art of getting out
KL Rahul it is all in the mind. Someone who has scored hundreds in South Africa, England and Australia obviously has the potential. If he could come back from injury and keep wickets as well as he did in the 2023 World Cup, there is little doubt he has the ability. His problem is he is periodically low on confidence. Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli (as coach and captain) were able to get the best out of him from time to time. Then, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid did the same. Now, it is on Rohit and Gautam Gambhir to give him the confidence to step up in Australia,” that was how former India wicketkeeper and later chief selector MSK Prasad summed up KL Rahul. This was just moments after Rahul was dismissed in the most bizarre manner in the second innings of the India A game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. There were no real alarms in the 43 balls he played and it seemed he was getting set for a long innings. That’s when a delivery from off spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, which would have missed leg stump, was actually padded by Rahul towards the off stump after he offered no shot. It was a freakish dismissal but with Rahul such things seem to happen far too often. “He is more invested in being perfect than in scoring runs. It is a kind of obsession with him. The number of times he shadow bats, perfects his stance, practices getting behind the line of the ball, you know that he is trying to be as perfect as is humanly possible,” said one of the Duleep Trophy commentators.
