Booking economy Election donates Courts Relationships Scrapping electoral bonds may make funding transparent: India Inc execs
electoral bonds should make poll funding more transparent as payments can be declared in books of accounts. Others said the move may result in a greater role for cash. Electoral bonds allowed companies and individuals to donate to political parties anonymously and without constraints. Some companies are worried that opposing political parties will now try and call them out on such funding and cause reputational harm. The Supreme Court has said State Bank of India, which was the sole issuer of the instrument, has to pass on details of all such purchases since 2019 to the Election Commission of India, which will make them public next month. Several executives, speaking anonymously to ET, expressed concern about the potential for harassment once these details are known. The Supreme Court had cited the quid pro quo involved in companies funding parties. That shouldn't be considered unacceptable, said a leading promoter.

Booking Sustainability classical Come, let us niksen
doing nothing is not something we would consciously do. But as the Dutch have pointed out, there can be great happiness in just doing nothing. They have also coined a word for this inactivity — niksen, which literally means just this, to do nothing. It means to be free of any purpose, to be completely idle. A period of niksen can act as a stress buster and help us regain focus. As has been said, niksen can make us more productive. Niksen is not the very antithesis of all that we are taught — to be focused, hardworking, productive, goal-oriented. Niksen is just an acknowledgement that there comes a time when we all need to take a break from all the running around. This is the classic work-life balance with a twist — instead of relaxing by reading a book or spending time with the family where again we are mentally engaged albeit in a good way, we niksen, just do nothing.

markets Art Booking Waters economy social Schools 21st century economics needs a better goal than ‘growth’: Kate Raworth
Kate Raworth is Senior Associate at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute. Speaking to Srijana Mitra Das, she discusses why reinventing economics is key to the ecological — and development — crises: What is the core of your research? I’m rewriting economics, starting with its foundational concepts. That’s what my book ‘Doughnut Economics’ is about. I drew a picture of the shape of progress. We’re told this shape is ‘growth’ — yet, huge ecological and social damage has been done through the way economies have grown. We need a much better goal for the 21st century. The picture I drew had a hole in the middle, like a doughnut — the aim is to leave nobody in that hole, short of life’s essentials like food, water, health, education, etc. But we need to do this without overshooting the outer ring of Earth’s limits. Returning to the textbooks I was taught, which are still taught today, I found these profoundly misguiding and not giving students the knowledge or orientation to turn things around. My book came out in 2017 and since then, many firms, governments, international institutions, etc., wanted to put these principles into practice. I co-founded the Doughnut Economics Action Lab to work with them.
