Retain costly health policy or use PMJAY coverage? Seniors have a tough choice
health insurance policy was due for renewal this month, he grappled with a common dilemma: should he continue paying ₹73,000 for a ₹2.75 lakh cover or instead rely on the government's Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which is now extended to all senior citizens over 70 and offers ₹5 lakh of free coverage per family? It's a question that is increasingly troubling senior citizens across India, as private health insurance premiums soar and government schemes promise substantial coverage, albeit with limitations. The AB-PMJAY now covers all senior citizens over 70 regardless of income. The move is expected to benefit about 60 million senior citizens and 45 million families. Enrolment for the scheme is likely to begin soon.

BSF creates open-air gyms, bathrooms for women along India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal
bathing sheds for women have been created by a BSF battalion deployed in this frontier area of West Bengal to guard the India-Bangaldesh international boundary. The facilities were created following the Union home ministry's directive to the border forces to engage with the local population, with Home Minister Amit Shah saying these remote locations on the front are not the last but the first villages of the country, and organisations like the Border Security Force (BSF) should take all measures for the betterment of the lives of the citizens residing in these security-sensitive areas, a senior officer told PTI. The 32nd battalion of the BSF has created the open-air gyms near its border outposts of Gede, Kadipur and Tungi in West Bengal's Nadia district. Equipment like parallel bars, waist stretchers, chest press, fun rider, lateral pull down, sit-up trainer, two-sided rotator and «tai chi spinner» have been installed in these gyms, the officer said.

Why Israel's pager bombs have no place in a just war
Hezbollah in Lebanon were certainly an espionage and technological coup. Few people on the spot or reading about them from far away could fail to be amazed. But the explosions on Tuesday and Wednesday were also very likely war crimes — terrorist attacks by a state that has consistently condemned terrorist attacks on its own citizens. Yes, the devices most probably were being used by Hezbollah operatives for military purposes. This might make them a legitimate target in the continuous cross-border battles between Israel and Hezbollah. But the attacks, which killed at least 37 people and wounded thousands of others, came when the operatives were not operating; they had not been mobilized and they were not militarily engaged. Rather, they were at home with their families, sitting in cafes, shopping in food markets — among civilians who were randomly killed and injured. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the attacks but is widely believed to be behind them. If those allegations are true, it is important for friends of Israel to say: This was not right.

Indian population: The final census
population data is crucial for policy formulation for any group or community. With this in mind, the British government initiated the census in India, which has continued even after independence. The first post-independence census was conducted in 1951, and since then, a total of seven censuses have been carried out until 2011, at intervals of every ten years. However, for the first time since independence, the 2021 census, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has yet to take place. With the approval of the Kovind Committee's report on «One Nation, One Election» by the Cabinet, hopes for conducting the census have risen, as it is crucial for the delimitation of the Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies.

Bought in the 1990s and discovered in 2015, the shares—some jointly held with her and others in her mother's name—had languished for decades, a silent testament to the bureaucratic labyrinth that plagues India's Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF), often ensnaring unsuspecting investors.

Cong slams Pak minister for statement on Art 370, raps BJP for raking it up
Congress leader Pramod Tiwari Thursday warned Pakistan against interfering in India's internal matters, slamming the country's defence minister for his statement that the Shehbaz Sharif government and the Congress-National Conference alliance were on the same page on the restoration of Article 370.He said that instead of giving such statements, Khawaja Asif should focus on protecting their citizens from «starvation and poverty». The Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha also criticised the BJP for talking about Asif's statement in the election campaign, «It appears that the BJP and Pakistan's establishment are reciprocating each other's interests,» he told reporters here. «We warn Pakistan against interfering in India's internal matters.
