Iran-Israel war: Will Nifty bulls get trapped in cross-firing and how it may impact investors?
Nifty could face knee-jerk reactions on Monday as equity investors are worried about the fallout of Iran's unprecedented full-scale military attack against Israel with more than 300 drones and missiles. On Friday, Sensex had fallen nearly 800 points as FPIs were net sellers to the tune of nearly $1 billion amid worries related to the tweak in the India-Mauritius tax treaty and hotter-than-expected US inflation data. Analysts say the sell-off could extend on Monday as well.

Charting the global economy: India can be the world's no.1 contributor to GDP growth by 2028
Bloomberg) --The European Central Bank held the line on interest rates but officials leaned even more toward a mid-year cut should inflation continue to cool. Lower borrowing costs would help nudge a European economy that’s struggled to register any growth for longer than a year. On the other side of the Atlantic, US economic activity is on much more solid footing and inflation is running too fast for Federal Reserve policymakers. Here are some of the charts that appeared on Bloomberg this week on the latest developments in the global economy, geopolitics and markets:

Indian coffee growers cheer as robusta production drops globally, prices hit record high
coffee industry is witnessing a windfall as robusta coffee bean prices skyrocketed to an unprecedented Rs 10,080 per 50 kg bag as of Friday. This surge marks a historic high since the establishment of coffee estates in the Western Ghats region during the 1860s by the British. Unlike the relatively stable pricing of Arabica coffee, known for its creamy layer in a shot, robusta prices have typically ranged between Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500 per 50 kg bag for nearly 15 years. The surge in robusta coffee prices has brought relief and joy to coffee growers, especially those with smaller holdings who primarily cultivate robusta due to its lower input costs compared to Arabica. These growers have faced challenges such as erratic rainfall, crop damage by wild animals, and rising input and labor costs over the past decade.

Last-mile transmission a big hurdle to policy rate cut
Mumbai: What’s holding back India’s central bank from cutting policy rates? Apart from the pace of price rise that is yet to align with Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) target of 4%, there is another factor at play — transmission of past repo rate actions into lending rates. The monetary policy committee (MPC) of RBI raised the repo rate by 250 basis points (bps) between May 2022 and February 2023.

Finally, moving out of defence colony
New Delhi's decision to post military and defence attaches to several new countries reflects India's changing assessments of strategic interests. Countering China, safeguarding critical gateways and increasing export of Indian military hardware is behind the choice of these new outposts that include several countries in Africa, East Europe and Asia Pacific. Now, GoI must ensure that defence personnel in missions abroad aren't limited to procurement, trade and training, as defence is an essential component of strategic relations. A better understanding of a defence attache's role is a must for the most optimum outcome.

As GCC thrives, Broadridge floats plan for India unit
Mumbai: Starting an India business is one of the company's top priorities, and it is carefully studying the market to devise a smart entry strategy for offering its capital markets and wealth management solutions to Indian players, said Tim Gokey, chief executive officer of Broadridge, a global fintech leader processing about $10 trillion in daily fixed income and equity trade volumes. Currently, a third of the company's total global workforce of 15,000 is based in capability centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Broadridge doesn't have an India business yet but only operates the two capability centres. Gokey said while the India capability centres may have initially functioned as cost units, they have since evolved into a major hub of intellectual capital for the company.
