Energy, auto companies bet big on LNG trucks
liquefied natural gas is catalysing energy companies and auto majors to gear up to serve the long-haul LNG trucking segment. To cater to these medium and heavy commercial vehicles, oil marketing companies are planning to expand the compressed natural gas dispensing infrastructure in their fuel retail outlets to dispense LNG. They are planning to set up LNG retailing outlets along major national highways. «Setting up of an LNG station will cost anywhere up to ₹8-₹12 crore. A fuel retail outlet costs only up to ₹1.5 crore. We are evaluating options to maximise investment and expand CNG dispensing stations to include LNG,» said a senior executive from an oil marketing company.

Audit fees growth lags corporate expansion in India
Audit fees for Nifty 500 companies increased by a modest 28% between 2018 and 2023, indicating that they have lagged behind their growth and operational performance, as market capitalisation grew 92.75%, net sales rose 83.7%, and profit after tax (PAT) increased 126.2%. According to data provided by Prime Database, audit fees grew from ₹1,114 crore in FY18 to ₹1,430 crore in FY23 for Nifty 500 companies and from ₹404 crore to ₹466 crore for Nifty 50 companies. While the audit fee hike is marginal, the sharply increasing complexity in business operations, heightened regulatory oversight on listed companies, growing complexity in reporting requirements, and escalating talent and organisation costs every year are putting auditors in a tough spot.

Demat account: How to pledge shares? Here's a step-by-step guide
Investors have the option to leverage their securities held in their demat accounts by pledging them as collateral to obtain a loan. This process, known as pledging, allows borrowers to access funds based on the value of their securities, including shares, debentures, bonds, and mutual fund units. By offering securities as collateral, borrowers can typically secure higher loan amounts at favorable interest rates, as lenders perceive lower risk due to the underlying asset. Moreover, the process of obtaining such loans involves minimal documentation and shorter processing times compared to traditional loan applications.
