NEW DELHI : The Union cabinet on Thursday approved an India AI Mission, raised dearness allowance (DA) for central employees and pensioners and extended its flagship cooking gas subsidy scheme, clearing a slew of decisions ahead of the upcoming general elections. The ₹10,372 crore India AI Mission will aim to build a base of graphic processing units (GPUs), multi-modal domain-specific large language models (LLMs), and a unified data platform. It will offer an open-source database of non-personal data that can be used to train AI models and market artificial intelligence (AI) applications commercially.

Torrent Power on Thursday said it has bagged a contract from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd for setting up 306 MW solar projects worth Rs 1,540 crore under the PM-KUSUM Scheme. The company in a statement said that the Letter of Award (LOA) for the project was handed over by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. «Torrent Power has emerged as a successful bidder and has received Letter of Award from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) on March 7, 2024, for setting up of 306 MW grid-connected solar power project, at 48 distributed locations, across Nasik District, Maharashtra,» the statement said. The project is conceived by MSEB Solar Agro Power Ltd (MSAPL) under Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0) scheme for implementation of feeder level solarisation under Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme connected to the distribution network.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday announced a myriad of decisions taken by the Narendra Modi government in its Cabinet meeting, ranging from allowance hikes and minimum support price hikes to new schemes for artificial intelligence. In a presser post the Cabinet meeting, Goyal announced outlays of Rs 10,037 crore for the Uttar Poorva scheme and Rs 10,371.92 crore to fund an ambitious IndiaAI Mission. Thursday's announcements come in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, likely to take place in May, this year.
