A new “quartet of chaos” threatens America
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Antony Blinken, America’s secretary of state, was unusually blunt on a recent visit to Europe: “One of the reasons that [Vladimir] Putin is able to continue this aggression is because of the provision of support from the People’s Republic of China," he said. China was, he added, “the biggest supplier of machine tools, the biggest supplier of microelectronics, all of which are helping Russia sustain its defence industrial base".

It's an economic war on BRICS nations: Economist Sharad Kohli weighs in on Trump's threat
BRICS countries regarding the latter's de-dollarisation efforts as an economic war on the developing nations. In an X post, Trump threatened BRICS countries that his administration would impose 100 per cent tariffs on all imports from those countries, should they dare to launch their currency. With growing global fragmentation, and geopolitical and geostrategic shifts, de-dollarisation plans are gathering currency. On the other hand, BRICS countries are working on reducing dollar dominance in the global financial system by replacing it with a new global currency.

'Red carpet treatment': Taiwan's Lai Ching-te feted during US stop on Pacific trip
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te was feted with a red carpet, garlands of flowers and «alohas» as he kicked off his two-day stopover in Hawaii on Saturday, part of a Pacific tour that has sparked fiery rhetoric from Beijing. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and has responded to Lai's first overseas trip as president with threats to «resolutely crush» any attempt for independence. Looking relaxed in a Hawaiian shirt, Lai flitted around the US island state, visiting a Pacific island history museum, an emergency management centre and the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbour.

Donald Trump's 100% BRICS Tariff threats: How India could be affected in a renewed trade war
Donald Trump prepares for his second term as US President, his aggressive trade stance is already creating ripples in the global economy. A key element of his protectionist policies is the threat of imposing 100% tariffs on BRICS countries, including India, if they move away from using the US dollar in international transactions. This bold stance, declared through a scathing social media post, could have severe consequences for India’s exports, particularly in critical sectors such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, and information technology. Trump’s remarks come in response to discussions among BRICS nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, regarding the possibility of reducing their reliance on the US dollar for trade. A summit held in Russia in October focused on increasing local currency transactions, a move that Trump has now vowed to challenge. “The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER,” Trump wrote, warning that any country attempting to replace the dollar with another currency would face significant tariff hikes. Trudeau promises border helicopters at ‘very productive’ Trump meeting: source
Donald Trump says a surprise meeting with Justin Trudeau at his Florida home was “very productive,” after the prime minister flew down to discuss the growing threat of American tariffs on Canadian goods, the border and national defence. On Friday evening, Trudeau landed in Florida and travelled to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club for a hastily arranged dinner and discussion with the United States’ incoming president that a senior Canadian government source said was successful. In a post on his social media site, Truth Social, Trump said the meeting between the two had gone well.“I just had a very productive meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, where we discussed many important topics that will require both Countries to work together to address,” Trump wrote. He said the two had discussed the illegal fentanyl and the toxic drug overdose crisis, as well as what Trump called “the massive trade deficit” between the United States and Canada.“I made it very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic, caused mainly by the Drug Cartels, and Fentanyl pouring in from China,” Trump wrote. “Too much death and hardship!”A senior Canadian government source told Global News the meeting, which ran from around 7:45 p.m.

Are there really ghosts in the voting machine?
Nitish Kumar joins hands with BJP. The fact that states and UTs like Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Himachal and, most recently, Jharkhand have EVMs that are completely unaffected by suspected poltergeist activity adds to the mystery. Some people like Mallikarjun Kharge, Sharad Pawar and Mayawati, have a rational bent of mind. They believe that EVM anomalies are not the product of ghosts in the machine, but of human tampering. They have demanded that the ballot paper — their metric of reliability from the good old 80s-90s when voters chose 'better' than they do today, except in states where they continue to choose correctly — be brought back.

Canada's Trudeau says he had an "excellent conversation" with Trump in Florida after tariffs threat
Justin Trudeau said Saturday he had an «excellent conversation» with Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club after the president-elect's threat to impose significant tariffs on two of America's leading trade partners raised alarms in Ottawa and Mexico City. It was unclear, as Trudeau headed back to Canada from Florida, whether the conversation had alleviated Trump's concerns. A person familiar with the details of the leaders' hastily arranged meeting Friday night said it was a «positive wide-ranging dinner that lasted three hours.» The official, who was not authorised to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said topics included trade, border security, fentanyl, defence, Ukraine, NATO, China, the Mideast and pipelines, as well as the the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in Canada next year. The Republican president-elect has threatened to impose tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico if the countries don't stop what he called the flow of drugs and migrants across their borders. He said he would impose a 25 per cent tax on all products entering the US from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders when he takes office in January.
