Visa woes ahead: Will India-Canada standoff disrupt visa services?
India and Canada has caused significant uncertainty for visa applicants, particularly students and families with ties to both countries. Amid the strained relationship, India expelled six Canadian diplomats and announced the withdrawal of its High Commissioner, following Canada's withdrawal of over two-thirds of its diplomats. The fallout may impact visa processes further, affecting students, families, and businesses alike. As tensions rise, the strained diplomatic ties could hinder direct air connectivity and lead to fewer visa approvals.

New allegations, old wounds: India rejects Canada’s accusations as diplomatic crisis worsens
covert operations on Canadian soil. The accusations center on the alleged involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead in British Columbia in June last year. Canadian authorities have now claimed that Indian agents are working in collaboration with criminal gangs, including the Bishnoi gang, to carry out covert operations targeting South Asian Canadians. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated his government’s stance at a press conference, saying, “Canada will never tolerate the involvement of a foreign government in threatening and killing Canadian citizens on Canadian soil.” He emphasized that the findings of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) provided “clear and compelling evidence” that agents of the Indian government are engaged in activities that pose a significant threat to public safety. Trudeau detailed the evidence, stating, “This includes clandestine information gathering techniques, coercive behavior targeting South Asian Canadians, and involvement in over a dozen threatening and violent acts, including murder. This is unacceptable.”

India does not see diplomatic fallout with Canada impacting trade ties
trade ties with the country immediately, a government source said on Tuesday. Canadian funds are also not expected to change their stance on India, the source added. Relations between India and Canada plummeted on Monday after Ottawa linked India's high commissioner and other diplomats to the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar on its soil and accused New Delhi of a broader effort to target Indian dissidents in Canada.

Tata Group to create 500,000 jobs in India with major investments in manufacturing
Tata Group will create 500,000 jobs in the next five years on back of massive investments in facilities for manufacturing semi-conductors, batteries, electric vehicles, among others, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said. Chandrasekaran, who was speaking at the Indian Foundation of Quality Management (IFQM) Symposium in Delhi Tuesday said with a million people joining the workforce every month India has the potential to become the human resource capital of the world. However, there is a need to create processes for ensuring quality in product manufacturing, people and the ecosystem. Chandrasekaran said it is now India’s moment to make a mark on the world stage. The momentum in the economy, rising per capita levels, and growing demand for products and services will all propel the country forward. «We will be a significant player in the manufacturing requirements of the world,» Chandrasekaran held.

India at UN condemns Pakistan's "unsubstantiated allegations" on Jammu-Kashmir, urges to cease human rights abuses
Eldos Mathew Punnoose exercised India's right of reply against Pakistan at the Joint General Debate on decolonization at the United Nations on Monday. Punnoose condemned Pakistan's «unsubstantiated allegations» regarding the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He emphasised the need for Pakistan to cease its ongoing human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Targeting Pakistan, he said, «Unsubstantiated allegations by Pakistan largely pertain to the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. India would like to reiterate that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, were and will be an integral and inalienable part of India. Clearly, Pakistan does not merit a response on the internal affairs of India.»

India, US sign ₹34,500 crore deal for 31 Predator drones, MRO facilities
Predator drones for the Indian armed forces. As part of the deal, India will also see the establishment of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility for the General Atomics-manufactured drones in the country. Final approval for the mega deal was secured earlier this year during a Defence Acquisition Council meeting, with the Indian government cutting it close to an October 31 deadline set by the Americans. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) only approved the deal last week. Of the 31 drones, 15 will be allocated to the Indian Navy, while the Air Force and the Army will each receive eight. The long-range drones will be armed and will add to the two that are already being leased by the Navy.

India is finally becoming a clean energy superpower
For several years, the country has fallen well short of the rosy visions proclaimed by its leaders. India should become the first major economy to industrialize without carbonizing, to paraphrase its Group of 20 sherpa Amitabh Kant. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to connect 500 gigawatts of clean energy by 2030, equivalent to all the generators in France, Germany and Italy put together. The picture on the ground has, until recently, been very different. A previous aspiration to hit 175 GW by 2022 came in 40% below target, and had to be fudged to avoid embarrassment. Ill-advised tariffs on solar panels, combined with contractual and political support for fossil fuels and constant changes to the rules of renewable power auctions, made matters worse.

US election 2024 results: Winner between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris to be decided today?
Donald Trump are taking their fight for Pennsylvania to opposite ends of the state on Monday, with Harris speaking in the northwest corner in Erie and Trump in the southeastern suburbs of Philadelphia, as per a AP report. Democrat Harris and Republican Trump have been making regular appearances in what is the country's largest battleground state — it will be Harris' 10th visit to Pennsylvania this campaign season, and just last week Trump made stops in both Scranton and Reading. Pennsylvania's energy industry and natural gas fracking are likely topics as they compete for the fraction of the state's voters who have not made up their minds. Mail-in voting is well underway in the state where some 7 million people are likely to cast votes in the presidential race.

India withdraws ambassador to Canada named in probe, expels Canadian diplomats
India ordered the expulsion of six Canadian diplomats on Monday and withdrew its own envoy from Canada, in response to what it said was Ottawa’s decision to name him and others as “persons of interest” in an investigation.India did not go into detail on the investigation, but relations have been fraught since 2023, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he had evidence linking Indian agents to the assassination of a Sikh separatist leader on his territory.India has long denied Trudeau’s accusation. On Monday it dismissed Canada’s move on the inquiry and accused Trudeau of pursuing a “political agenda.”“We have no faith in the current Canadian Government’s commitment to ensure their security.
