American dream fading? Things don’t look too good for those seeking to migrate to US, especially Indians
USCIS) proudly posted on X that a 99-yr-old woman from India had been awarded citizenship. 'They say age is just a number. That seems true for this lively 99-year-old who became a new US citizen in our Orlando office. Daibai is from India and was excited to take the Oath of Allegiance....' Indians tired of waiting for an employment-based green card (GC) for decades did not take too kindly to this post. One person responded to USCIS with, 'LOL. Soon you will give green cards posthumously!' A GC is the first step on the path towards US citizenship. In general, only after five years of holding a GC (reduced to three years, if you are married to a US citizen) can you apply for citizenship. The catch — it's a decades-long queue if you are from India.

Modi’s hands shook while defending electoral bonds: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the PM’s hands shook while trying to explain the electoral bonds fiasco in a recent media interview. “The electoral bonds are the biggest scam the nation has ever seen…the BJP government used the bonds to extort money off businesses that suddenly found themselves the target of central agencies like the CBI, ED and Income Tax Department,” he said, speaking in a rally in Mandya nine days before the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in the state. Gandhi was on his first visit to the state after the poll schedule was announced a month ago. Praising the Congress regime in the state, he said the party had fulfilled all the guarantees it had promised before the assembly polls last year. If the Congress won in the Centre, it would also fulfill its national guarantees, he added.

What are GPUs? Why is India scrambling for them?
Since GPUs are scarce and very expensive, the Indian government has two options: let businesses and industry solve its own GPU problem or spend public money to make GPUs more accessible to startups, research bodies and key industries, just as it has done with the Production-linked Incentives (PLI) scheme to promote key industries for its Make in India mission. In the first case, India will remain a laggard in AI and other emerging technologies; in the second, it can emerge as a new-age tech hub. Large domestic computing capacity also ensures a country's data sovereignty. The government has realised the importance of GPUs for India and is working to find a solution. It may strike a deal with Nvidia, the world's biggest GPU producer, to source graphics processing units (GPUs) from it, and offer them to local startups, researchers, academic institutions and other users at a subsidised rate under its Rs 10,000 crore Artificial Intelligence Mission, ET has reported based on information form sources.

Majority of senior living projects in India are in South India: Report
senior living projects in India are concentrated in the southern cities of Chennai, Bengaluru, and Coimbatore, contributing to approximately 40% of the country's total inventory, according to CBRE data. This dominance is linked to the region's favourable climate, improved connectivity, presence of prominent healthcare players and a higher percentage of parents of NRIs. The southern region distinctly leads by contributing about 74% to the overall supply, particularly in organised assisted living segments. This promising trend is driven by several factors, including higher affordability levels and a growing acceptance of nuclear family structures, as evidenced by a higher proportion of elderly living alone compared to the northern states.

Japan’s bold steps to emerge as main security provider in Indo-Pacific region amid China’s expansionism
Fumio Kishida’s visit to the United States in April 2024 was a historical visit because the agreement indicated that Japan will take charge of a more wider security role in the East China Sea, Taiwan and the South China Sea as a trustworthy ally of the United States. Firstly, Japan and the United States are planning to make Tokyo to be main headquarters of military operation in this region. Currently, Japan has been planning to establish the integrated headquarters of its ground, maritime, and air Self-Defence-Forces in Tokyo by next March 2025. Along with it, during this Kishida’s US visit, the US decided to strengthen its headquarters in Tokyo to make seamless collaboration with the Japanese side. The rank of commander of the headquarter will rise from three star general to be four star general. The four-star general is at the same level with the current Indo-Pacific Commander in Hawaii. The strengthening of the seamless command chain of armed forces in Tokyo is very important step. Currently, China is provoking countries in the East China Sea, Taiwan and the South China Sea at the same time. For China’s strategy, these areas are one set. For example, if China wants to invade Taiwan, China should dominate the East China Sea and the South China Sea to isolate Taiwan. And government in Beijing can control all these areas under one integrated strategy.

Lok Sabha Elections: Rajnath Singh seeks Congress stand on CPI(M) manifesto promise to dismantle nukes
Rajnath Singh on Wednesday questioned the intention behind the CPI(M)'s poll manifesto promise to dismantle nuclear weapons in the country and demanded to know the stand of the Congress on this issue. Singh alleged talk of dismantling India's nuclear weapons amounted to playing with national security and that there was a «deep-rooted conspiracy to weaken the country». He accused the Left and the Congress, both allies in the anti-BJP INDIA bloc, of apparently trying to weaken the country. Speaking at a public meeting in Kasaragod Lok Sabha seat seeking votes for BJP candidate M L Ashwini, Singh demanded that the Congress should clarify its stand on the CPI(M)'s promise in the manifesto to dismantle nuclear weapons as it was the Indira Gandhi government which kicked off the country's nuclear programme in 1974.

Nifty bulls run for cover amid missile attacks in the Middle East. Is war really a threat for investors?
Our markets are volatile with recent events of Iran-Israel tensions and the potential for a war-like scenario taking a toll. While we do not purport to be experts on geo-political event outcomes, recent history suggests that these events take some time to de-escalate as global leaders work towards limiting both direct and collateral political implications to countries involved in such attacks. History shows that such conflicts have nearly always created near-term volatility which in hindsight, also show up as long-term opportunities.
