Cummins India’s growth hinges on pricing trend, competitive intensity
Cummins India staged a recovery on Monday with over 6% gain after shedding nearly 7% since declaring the September quarter result on November 7. The company reported a strong double digit growth year-on-year in revenue and profit for the second quarter amid expansion in operating margin before depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA margin). However, uncertainty over the extent of demand, pricing of the diesel power generators under 800 Kilowatt-hour (kWh) capacity, which was buoyant in the first two quarters of the current fiscal year, and elevated valuation are some of the concerns for the stock. The Central Pollution Control Board made CPCB IV plus compliance mandatory for generators under 800 KVA range since July 01. These standards, in a bid to improve air quality, prescribe the permissible levels of pollutants emitted by diesel generators. This regulatory push was a key driver in sales of gensets under 800 kWh during the first half of FY25 for Cummins India. In addition, the company also reported traction from data centre sector for its generators, which are in the above 800 kWh range and follow CPCB II norms.

A large part of the pain over; start accumulating stocks where numbers have been good: Hemang Jani
Hemang Jani, Independent Market Expert, says at index level, there has been an almost 10% correction, at stock level anywhere from 10% to 25-30%. A large part of that pain is behind us. It is time to start accumulating stocks, particularly the pockets where the numbers have been good, whether it is banks, defence, some of the pharma companies, telecoms, so on and so forth. We are all heaving a sigh of relief with yesterday’s rebound that we witnessed. What do you make of it? Do you think that the much overdue correction is still eluding us and is yet to come or is this going to be the course of action for the markets a couple of days on the downside and then we will bounce back? Hemang Jani: We are going through this correction for almost three to four weeks now. Of course, the earning season has been one of the main triggers, which has been a bit disappointing across sectors and within sectors also we are seeing a lot of divergence. But once this US election as an event is out of the way and once we see some clarity emerging, our markets should stabilise because a large part of the correction, which is earnings led has already been priced in because at index level we have seen almost about 10% correction, at stock level anywhere from 10% to 25-30%.

IPL 2025: Most expensive player retentions revealed
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises announced their list of player retention on Thursday, October 31, ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 mega-auction. With franchises eager to secure their core talents, an impressive amount was spent to retain top players, including some rising stars. Notably, Punjab Kings took a conservative approach, retaining only two players, while other teams kept their essential players intact. The auction is scheduled for November and December, where franchises will look to fill the remaining slots. Rajasthan Royals (RR) committed to retaining six key players, leaving them with a remaining purse of Rs 41 crore for the auction. In contrast, Punjab Kings (PBKS) enter the bidding with a hefty Rs 110.5 crore, positioning them well to compete for high-value players. South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen emerged as the most expensive retention, with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) valuing him at Rs 23 crore. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli secured his position as the priciest Indian player, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) allocating Rs 21 crore to retain him.
