Delhi government has proposed a compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh for the families of prisoners who die due to unnatural causes while in custody in the city's jails. According to a statement, the proposal, aimed at addressing grievances and upholding human rights within the prison system, has been submitted to the lieutenant governor for approval. «Unnatural custodial deaths, as defined by the policy, may occur due to incidents such as quarrels between inmates, mistreatment or torture by prison staff, or negligence by medical officers,» the statement said. However, the compensation will not apply in cases of death by suicide, escape attempts, natural causes or disasters.

Following that, his remains were transferred to the Norwegian Veterinary Institute for an autopsy; the results are expected to be available in three weeks. After seeing the whale's corpse, Regina Crosby Haug, the leader of One Whale, verified that it had sustained many gunshot wounds. Hvaldimir's bloodied body was depicted in photos that One Whale and NOAH published, and they clearly indicated bullet holes. The director of NOAH, Siri Martinsen, stressed the gravity of the injuries and voiced concern about the possibility of criminal conduct. At present, the police are assessing the amount of evidence to see if a formal inquiry should be launched.

Addressing the press at the State Emergency Operation Center, Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey stated that survey operations have been undertaken by a total of 1,120 teams across the districts of Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Anand, Kutch, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Narmada, Navsari, Porbandar, Morbi, and Valsad.

During this period, 49 persons died in rain-related incidents, such as lightning strikes, wall collapse, and drowning in flood waters, he told reporters at Gandhinagar-based State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). «Among the 49 deaths, the kin of 22 have already been paid Rs 4 lakh each as compensation as per norms. A sum of Rs 1.78 crore has been disbursed to the owners of 2,618 livestock that perished,» Pandey said, adding that Gujarat so far received 108 per cent of its average annual rainfall.

Demanding the resignation of the PM and the Union home minister, Banerjee said: «I have written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wanted a stringent law on rape but there was no reply from the PM.»

A huge cache of weapons was also seized from the encounter site. Union home minister Amit Shah, during his three-day visit last month, had said that the government is committed to completely eradicating Maoism from the country before March 2026. Shah has also sought the creation of a special investigation agency in states for probe and prosecution on the lines of National Investigation Agency and has urged Chhattisgarh government to come up with a new surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy.
