Death film Actor War voice stars Features Coming to a cinema near you, a new Madhubala movie?
Uttam Kumar during a ride on the Kolkata Metro. The voice announced Kumar's 'comeback' to the big screen in Srijit Mukherji's latest film, Oti Uttam — a neat play of words on the actor's name, and the title which literally means 'Most Excellent'. But what was 'oti' interesting, was that the voice was that of Uttam Kumar. Any Bengali, millennials included, worth his salt and her slice of lime will tell you that the great 'matinee idol' passed away in 1980. They will also tell you how the great man exuded charm and appeal, which is believed to be transcendental. I suspect that the 'Uttam Kumar' voice I heard in the Metro was AI-generated, rather than a manifestation of an elaborate planchette. The main character of Mukherji's film currently playing in theatres is portrayed using old B&W footage featuring Uttam Kumar. The screenwriter-filmmaker painstakingly selected clips and dialogues from 56 of Uttam Kumar's films, and reportedly hired an AI company to 'clone' the actor's voice, even deliver dialogues in this movie that the actor may have never uttered.

Aware Death Research country 2020 testing patient Prostate cancer cases to double between 2020 and 2040, deaths to rise by 85 per cent: Lancet study
Prostate cancer cases worldwide are projected to more than double and deaths to increase by 85 per cent between 2020 and 2040, with low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) likely to bear the «overwhelming brunt» of this spike, according to The Lancet Commission on prostate cancer. The surge in cases is «inevitable», with actual numbers likely to be much higher because of under-diagnosis and missed opportunities for data collection in LMICs, researchers said. They said ageing populations and improving life expectancy will lead to more cases of prostate cancer in older men, and given than being 50 years or older is a risk factor, lifestyle changes and public health interventions may not be able to prevent the upcoming surge. «As more and more men around the world live to middle and old age, there will be an inevitable rise in the number of prostate cancer cases. We know this surge in cases is coming, so we need to start planning and take action now,» said lead author of the Commission, Nick James, professor of prostate and bladder cancer research at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, UK.

Israel said Friday it was targeting a "Hamas gunman" when it killed in Gaza seven aid workers whose deaths caused an international outcry, with its military admitting a series of «grave mistakes» and violations of its own rules of engagement. The victims — an Australian, Britons, a North American, a Palestinian and a Pole — were killed in three air strikes over four minutes by an Israeli drone as they ran for their lives between their three vehicles, the military said. The drone team who killed them made an «operational misjudgement of the situation» after spotting a suspected Hamas gunman shooting from the top of one of the aid trucks they were escorting, an internal Israeli military inquiry found.
