Over next few years, India will have a much more balanced economy: Ritesh Jain
Ritesh Jain, Global Macro Trader, says India had leapfrogged manufacturing and directly went into services because of digital infra and English-speaking population. Data show services create 20% of the jobs created by manufacturing. That is why we have a jobless recovery and wealth concentrated in metros. Now, India is going back to the drawing board and manufacturing will start pulling its weight because of government focus, PLI schemes, China plus one, etc. This will lead to broad-based prosperity due to job creation and real estate prices in tier II, tier III cities will outpace those of metros. What kind of structural changes are you witnessing in the Indian economy right now? Ritesh Jain: I believe the structure of the Indian economy is changing.

The state must find new ways to assert its authority online
In 1919, Max Weber delivered a lecture titled “Politics as a Vocation," in which he argued for the first time that the state has a monopoly over the use of physical force. He was looking for a way to justify the state’s use of force and chose to do so by elevating it to the level of a crucial feature of the social contract. In those days, authority was manifest through tangible expressions of control—institutions like the police and military, and coercive constructs like laws and regulations.

Another day, another multibillion-dollar regulatory fine from Europe that will barely dent the balance sheet of a technology giant. Only this time, the European Commission’s $2 billion penalty against Apple marks the end of an old clunky era, and the start of a new one where trust-busters can be quicker and more efficient in policing Silicon Valley’s biggest companies. Their secret weapon: a new law called the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Ram Mandir inauguration: More than 1,240 cyberattacks blocked
Ram Mandir inauguration in January, hackers and cyber criminals, predominantly from China and Pakistan, were constantly targeting the websites of the Ram Temple, Prasar Bharti and other digital assets of critical infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh (UP), officials told ET. The government had blocked 1244 IP addresses, of which 999 were from China alone. «The rest of the blocked addresses were from Pakistan, Hong Kong and Cambodia,» officials said. Since the government had anticipated a rise in cyber-attacks during the inauguration, all the pre-emptive measures were put in place. The Telecom Security Operation Centre (TSOC) was monitoring around 264 websites including that of the Ram Temple, Prasar Bharti, UP Police, airport, UP tourism, and the power grid among others round the clock to prevent any cyber-attack. «It was a 7-day drill to guard the digital assets as we had anticipated a rise in cyber-attacks. Since the main event was on January 21, we had to secure the assets before and after the event also,» a person privy to the details said.
