The Dogecoin price has fallen by 1.5% in the last hour and by 4% in the past 24 hours, dropping to $0.080716 amid a similar fall for the cryptocurrency market as a whole. The altcoin is also down by 12% in a week and by 4% in the last 30 days, dragged down, like much of the market, by regulatory uncertainty (most recently surrounding Paxos and BUSD).

On Feb. 9, United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler explained why the regulator had cracked down on Kraken cryptocurrency exchange, forcing it to stop its crypto staking program for U.S. clients. This news may have rattled crypto investors and they sold aggressively. Bitcoin (BTC) crashed about 5% on Feb. 9 and several altcoins also followed suit.

Dogecoin (DOGE), the cryptocurrency that powers the Shiba Inu meme-inspired layer-1 Dogecoin blockchain, was last trading higher by about 1.5% this Tuesday just to the north of the $0.09 level. Dogecoin has now rallied just shy of 3% from Monday’s lows just under $0.09, with buyers seemingly having come in to support the token as it retested its 21 and 100-Day Moving Averages. Near-term price predictions thus remain modestly upbeat. 

The United States dollar index (DXY) has started a strong recovery and its rise is putting pressure on Bitcoin (BTC) and the S&P 500 (SPX) index. The market participants will be keenly watching for any insights on future rate hikes when the Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks before the Economic Club of Washington on Feb. 7.

Meme coin prices are on a roll, with broad-based appreciation in values pushing the sector's market cap over $22 billion, led by week gains for top sector coins such as Shiba Inu (SHIB), Baby Doge Coin (Baby Doge), Bone ShibaSwap (BONE) and Tamadoge (TAMA).

Dogecoin has been gaining popularity in the cryptocurrency space due to its low price and potential for massive gains. Recently, a popular crypto trader predicted that Dogecoin could move up by 50% in the near future. This has caused some investors to wonder if now is the time to buy Dogecoin or not.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) price was at the lowest versus its top rival Dogecoin (DOGE) in November 2022. Three months later, the dynamics have flipped. 

Bitcoin’s (BTC) rally in 2023 has been boosted by expectations that the United States Federal Reserve will slow down the pace of its rate hikes as inflation has started cooling down. Some even anticipate a rate cut by the end of the year. That assumption received a jolt on Feb.3 when the U.S. employment data for January beat expectations and unemployment hit its lowest level since May 1969.

The memecoin phenomenon didn’t prove as effective in the last month's start of year crypto market rally, as the gains of the top cryptocurrencies in this category barely outperformed Bitcoin. The monthly gain of BTC stood at 44.5%, while the top two meme-based coins DOGE and SHIB gained 27% and 40.7%, respectively.

Bitcoin (BTC) gained about 40% in January, its best finish in the first month of the year since 2013. The sharp rally caused a change in sentiment and the futures markets which saw backwardation in November and December started trading at a healthy contango in January, according to Glassnode.

The dogecoin price has now rallied by 9% in the past seven days, pushed up by reports that Twitter is moving ahead with its plans to introduce payments. At $0.091703, it has dipped by 1% in the past 24 hours, although it rose by well over 10% between Monday and Tuesday, with the coin also up by 30% in the last 30 days.

There are rumors that Dogecoin could switch from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake (PoS). 

The dogecoin price has jumped by 8% today, rising to $0.092839 after reports yesterday that Twitter owner Elon Musk is determined to move ahead with integrating payments into the social network. DOGE is now up by 11% in a fortnight and by 32% following the news, with the market expecting that the meme token will be one of the chief beneficiaries of Twitter's crypto play.

Traders tend to lighten up positions before important events because they hate uncertainty. The United States Federal Reserve’s policy decision is on Feb. 1, where the central bank is expected to hike rates by 25 basis points.
