GIFT Nifty up 25 points; here's the trading setup for today's session
«Although the market has been on a steady upward trend, momentum has been somewhat lacking, largely due to the underperformance of major banking stocks, which carry substantial weight in the benchmark. And, if we see improved participation from the banking sector, Nifty could break past the 25,500 mark and move toward a new milestone of 26,000,» said Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking.

US stock market prediction: Top company's shares to follow in S&P 500, Dow, Nasdaq composite after Labor Day 2024 holiday
US stock market indexes — S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq composite — are witnessing broadening rally even as Wall Street will eye key jobs data and the Federal Reserve's expected rate cuts in September after Labor Day 2024 holiday. As the market's fortunes keep rising and falling with big tech stocks such as Nvidia and Apple, investors are also putting money in less-loved value stocks and small caps, which are expected to benefit from lower interest rates. Stocks have also held up after an Nvidia forecast failed to meet lofty investor expectations earlier this week, another sign that investors may be looking beyond tech. The equal weight S&P 500 index, a proxy for the average stock, hit a fresh record this week and is up around 10.5 per cent year-to-date, narrowing its performance gap with the S&P 500.

US stock market Thursday: Dow Jones sets new record, S&P 500, Nasdaq down. Check Nvidia, Alphabet, Apple shares
Dow Jones rose to a record high but S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were flat as US stock market indexes had a mixed showing at Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at its highest level ever, while S&P 500 index was just below its July record high close as expectations for a September interest rate cut remained robust. S&P 500 gained 0.37 points, or 0.01 per cent, to end at 5,592.55 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 37.51 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 17,518.51. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 247.74 points, or 0.60 per cent, to 41,336.56. The movements came on the back of data indicating the US economy grew at an annual rate of 3.0 percent in the April to June period — revised upwards from 2.8 percent. The U.S. economy grew faster than initial estimates due to strong consumer spending, the Commerce Department reported, supporting expectations the US is likely to avoid a recession.
