Maharashtra hasn't seen one-party rule for three decades
Maharashtra may be a nightmare for political pandits, but the state has not witnessed single-party rule for the last nearly thirty years. Since 1995, only alliances have ruled in the state, though the last five years witnessed extraordinary realignments where former allies became sworn enemies and sworn enemies became friends. The state had its last one-party government in 1990 when the Congress retained power by winning 141 seats in the 288-member assembly though it fell short of a simple majority. The BJP won 42 and Shiv Sena 52 seats. The present coalition-era started in 1995 when the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance ended the Grand Old Party's hegemony and formed a government.

Valmiki scam: Rs 15 crore funds siphoned distributed to influence voters in Lok Sabha elections
Valmiki scam by former Karnataka Minister Nagendra and his aides was allegedly used «during the 2024 Lok Sabha election expenditures to influence voters» and some significant portion of the amount for personal expenses, said the Enforcement Directorate's chargesheet. Significant amounts were channeled towards election campaigns under the direction of Nagendra, and the cash was distributed to party workers and voters in constituencies like Bellary, Kudligi, and Kamp, the chargesheet stated. As per the charge sheet, filed in a special court in Bengaluru, cash was distributed to polling stations in constituencies, with each voter receiving Rs 200 and each polling booth Rs 10,000. «This involved over Rs 15 crores distributed to influence voters.»

What factor will swing Maharashtra verdict - crop, caste or cash? Poll drama turns more and more intense
This election could determine the fate of political parties like Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Times of India newspaper wrote on October 16. The Congress, which ranked fourth in the last assembly election, hopes to build on its parliamentary resurgence. For the BJP, a win is vital after a disappointing performance in the Lok Sabha (LS) elections, where it secured only nine seats in Maharashtra, the report (by Priyanka Kakodkar) said. The ruling Mahayuti alliance has introduced several welfare schemes to win voters, including a Rs 1,500 monthly stipend for underprivileged women under the Mukhya Mantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. This initiative, costing Rs 46,000 crore annually, aims to mimic the success of similar schemes in other states.

Tired of Trudeau: Why Canadians are not willing to trust their PM
Justin Trudeau is finding it hard to convince Canadians about India's alleged link to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, in Canada last year. His latest move to brand Indian High Commissioner to Canada as a «person of interest» in the Nijjar probe comes with the same vague allegations he made against India last year. "...we started to understand through intelligence agencies that India was possibly if not probably, behind Nijjar's killing...," Trudeau said on Monday, while accusing the Indian government of supporting criminal activities in Canada. «Possibly if not probably» is same as the claim of «credible allegations» Trudeau made last year. Besides his vague allegations against India as he tries to pander to his Khalistani Sikh votes before an impending election, Trudeau has another problem: in the nine years as the Canadian PM, he has lost credibility and is widely expected to lose the next election. His desperation to throw India-Canada ties under the bus to retain support of his Khalistani vote bank seems all the more clumsy when he has landed in a political quicksand and thinks he can distract Canadians' attention from his own multi-crisis which include a coup brewing in his own caucus and corruption allegations. Caste, community equations among considerations in Mahayuti MLC nominations
Maharashtra assembly polls, the ruling Mahayuti appears to have maintained a balance in the representation of various communities and tried to avoid any potential rebellion while nominating seven members for the MLC posts, as per political analysts. Of the seven new members of the legislative council who took oath on Tuesday, the BJP has nominated three, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's NCP have two members each. On Monday, the state cabinet cleared seven out of 12 names and received approval from Governor C P Radhakrishnan. With his approval, the swearing-in ceremony was held at the Vidhan Bhavan on Tuesday, hours before the announcement of the Maharashtra assembly elections.

"EVM batteries have signatures of party representatives": CEC Rajiv Kumar discards Congress allegations
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said Electronic Voting Machines are totally «safe and robust,» and have batteries like a calculator, not like a mobile which will be charged everyday. CEC Kumar explained that EVMs had three-layered security including the batteries and in each level signatures of political party representatives were taken to ensure transparency. «People also ask, if pagers can be hacked then why can't EVMs be hacked? Pagers are connected but EVMs are not,» he said during a press conference while announcing the poll dates for Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections on Tuesday.

Finally, the company decided to call off the issue and wait for a better time when geopolitical uncertainties subside and the US presidential election is done,» said a person familiar with the development.

US election 2024: Did Kamala Harris really use teleprompter? Here's bitter truth
Kamala Harris used a teleprompter during the event which resulted in criticism from former US President Donald Trump and other eminent conservative leaders suggesting that Kamala Harris was reading from scripted responses, reported USA Today. Enrique Acevedo, Univision’s moderator, following such alleged criticisms later clarified that teleprompter was solely being used for his opening statement while it later displayed a timer during Kamala Harris’s responses. According to USA Today, Enrique Acevedo confirmed through a post on social media that any claims of US Vice President Kamala Harris using the teleprompter during the event were totally False. Enrique Acevedo also added that the teleprompter showed text in Spanish primarily and it was not at all intended for her assistance while it got switched to a timer as Kamala Harris started engaging with questions from the audience.
