INDIA bloc will repeal the anti-people laws brought by BJP govt: Shashi Tharoor
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday here said the INDIA bloc, if it comes to power, will repeal the amendments made to the anti-terror law UAPA and references to religion in the law meant to grant citizenship to the refugees. There is no need for such a law which does not give a person even a chance to prove his innocence, he said, referring to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Many people have been in jail for a long time because of the laws that have been «weaponised,» he said. Tharoor said that the Congress seems way ahead of the BJP in the elections and that it is gaining seats where it got fewer ones in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

India may cut its borrowings this year as the ongoing national elections narrow the government’s spending window by about three months, according to Mirae Asset Investment Managers India Pvt. “We have nine months of spending this fiscal year because of elections,” and “there could be a slight cut,” Kruti Chheta, a fixed-income fund manager at Mirae, said on Bloomberg Television. “These borrowings could be added to the next fiscal year.” India’s seven-phase election that started in April is nearing an end, with results due on June 4. The government is barred from making any new spending plans once the elections are announced, according to regulations. Tribal population decreasing in Santhal Parganas due to infiltration: PM Modi in Jharkhand
tribal population was decreasing in the Santhal Parganas because of infiltration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the JMM-led ruling alliance in Jharkhand of «patronising» infiltrators, who he said were grabbing land and putting women at risk. Addressing an election rally in Dumka, he alleged that the JMM and Congress were indulging in «rampant loot» and vowed that action against corruption would be intensified in the country after June 4. «A big crisis looms over Jharkhand and that is infiltration. The Santhal Parganas is facing the challenge of infiltration. In many areas, the population of tribals is declining fast and the number of infiltrators is on the rise. The infiltrators are grabbing tribal lands. Tribal daughters are the target of infiltrators. Their security and safety are at risk. Their lives are also at risk,» he said. Apparently referring to two incidents that happened in 2022, Modi said, «Tribal daughters are being chopped into 50 pieces… Being burnt alive… Someone's tongue was pulled out. Who are these people who are targeting tribal daughters? Why is the JMM government patronising them?»
