United Left panel on Sunday effected a clean sweep in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) election, defeating its nearest rival the RSS-affiliated ABVP. In the polls that happened after a hiatus of four years, Dhananjay from the All India Students' Association (AISA) won the JNUSU president's post by securing 2,598 votes against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's (ABVP) Umesh C Ajmeera who secured 1,676 votes. Dhananjay hails from Gaya, Bihar, and is the first Dalit president from the Left after Batti Lal Bairwa in 1996-97.

ECI could soon issue an advisory on the matter. However, it is also alive to INDIA bloc's concerns and the panel's own mandate and role in ensuring level playing field. ECI may issue either a strong advisory to the Centre or a specific communication to agencies concerned. ET gathers that the panel is considering a draft to the effect.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released the fifth list for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The list of 111 Lok Sabha candidates included the name of ‘Queen’ actor Kangana Ranaut from Mandi constituency seats of Himachal Pradesh and Arun Govil from Meerut.

Varun Gandhi’s mother Maneka will contest the Sultanpur seat, from where she is currently an MP. Pilibhit seat has been represented by Varun Gandhi's mother Maneka Gandhi or him for over two decades. Varun Gandhi had first won the Pilibhit seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections as a BJP candidate.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 24 released its fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls 2024.
