While the two wheeler (2W) and three-wheeler (3W) segments saw a positive year-on-year (YoY) growth of 4.66 per cent and 5.1 per cent respectively, passenger vehicles (PV), tractors and commercial vehicles (CV) sales declined 6.7 per cent, 28.3 per cent, and 4.7 per cent, respectively. “June is traditionally one of the weakest months for India’s auto retail. This year, while the monsoon progressed normally up to Maharashtra, it lost momentum, delaying rains in West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. This exacerbated the effects of a severe heatwave in northwest India, contributing to a prolonged hiatus that not only intensified the heatwave but also delayed the sowing operations of kharif (summer sown) crops in northern and north-western regions, thereby impacting rural sales," said Manish Raj Singhania, FADA President.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said prices of potato and onion, which also spiked due to supply disruptions, are expected to stabilize soon. «Prices of tomato, potato and onion are ruling high in Delhi and some other cities. Extreme heat followed by spells of excess rainfall disrupted supplies, causing a spike in prices in consuming areas,» the consumer affairs ministry official told PTI. Tomato price in New Delhi has surged to Rs 75 per kg, but is likely to ease if heavy rainfall does not further disrupt supply chains, he said.

The school education department has announced the closure of all schools on Tuesday due to inclement weather. On Sunday, the state disaster management and rehabilitation department had issued an alert in anticipation of heavy rainfall and storms. Assam’s State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) officials said that it had requested the IAF to help rescue the fishermen from the Hatia Ali area in the district.

Rescuers assisted by divers from Nepal's security forces on Saturday resumed the search for over 50 people, including seven Indians, still missing after two passenger buses were swept away by a mudslide into a rain-swollen river in the Himalayan nation. The two buses carrying 54 passengers went missing in the Trishuli River in the landslides at the Simaltal area along the Narayanghat-Mugling road in Chitwan district. Earlier, it was reported that there were more than 60 people on board the two buses. The Nepali Army, Nepal Police and armed police personnel along with deep divers are being mobilised to resume the search operation, according to the Nepal Police.
