Agnibaan’s test flight shows Indian aerospace is done playing catch-up
India's space ambitions: Market forces are with us Agnikul Cosmos has just demonstrated that it is no longer a matter of playing catch-up as the Agnibaan launch vehicle is cutting-edge in terms of technology. The engine is semi-cryogenic, meaning it uses a mixture of extremely cold fuel (liquid oxygen) and normal-temperature fuel (kerosene or aviation turbine fuel). Semi-cryogenic rocket engines are even trickier than fully cryogenic ones, which use a mix of very cold fuels.

Heatwaves and cyclones: India's tryst with climate change
IMD issuing a ‘red alert’ warning of severe heatwave conditions on 28 May for two days across six states: Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. As a study published by the Delhi-based think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) —titled Decoding The Urban Heat Stress Among Indian Cities—a few days ago shows, cities are becoming increasingly vulnerable to rising heat stress, especially deadly humid heat. The fact that cities are registering higher night temperatures adds to the deadliness. At the same time as these heatwaves, a major cyclone, Remal, made landfall in the Bengal coast on 26 May, causing extreme damage, and claimed a few lives.

This extreme heat is severely affecting urban wildlife, with birds and animals struggling to find shade and water. Delhi Zoo's Heat Mitigation Measures To mitigate the impact of the extreme heat, the Delhi Zoo has implemented several measures. Coolers and sprinklers have been installed in animal enclosures, and the water in mud ponds and pools is changed every 3 to 10 days. In an interview with ANI, Delhi Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar shared, “The zoo authorities have introduced comprehensive measures to protect the animals from the extreme heat and create a more comfortable environment during the hottest part of the year.” Wall-hanging thermometers in key enclosures help monitor temperature fluctuations.

Extreme summer heat & loss of productivity lead to an all-time high demand for delivery personnel
summer heat, rising absenteeism and loss of productivity has led to an all-time high demand for last-mile delivery and warehouse personnel to fill in for the daily attrition, said officials from staffing firms and logistics companies. About 2,000 delivery personnel are dropping off every day in quick commerce and 5,000 in food delivery, according to estimates by Teamlease Services. “A total of about 7,000 people – for quick commerce and food delivery — are needed for replacement hiring daily,” said Balasubramanian A, vice president and head of consumer and ecommerce at TeamLease. This is much higher than the daily exit of about 5,000 seen last year this time to cater to the typical summer season shortfall when many migrant labourers leave for their hometowns.
