Discontent over LS tickets grows in Trinamool
leaders, who did not get the Lok Sabha tickets, is growing long while they continue to express their unhappiness over the issue. After Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh left the party and rejoined the BJP, Congress icon Gani Khan family descendant and Rajya Sabha MP Mousam Noor today expressed her disappointment as her name was not announced by the Trinamool from Malda North. She said she expected to fight from the seat. Noor, new to the addition of the list, said, «I had expectations of fighting from Malda North. Earlier, I fought from the same seat in 2019 and got defeated. There was division of vote as two members of our family have fought. However, it is the decision of my party supremo and top leadership to decide who will fight in which seat. I am here and will fight as the soldier of my party.» Trinamool Congress has announced the name of former top cop Prasun Banerjee for the Malda Uttar seat. Earlier, Bardhaman leader Sunil Mondal, former Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen and Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh also spoke about their unhappiness for not getting a ticket. Mondal had said that he was a victim of internal party politics and that is why he did not get the ticket. «However, I will continue to work for the party,» Mondal said.

Have come here to stay: Yusuf Pathan
Trinamool Congress candidate from Murshidabad's Baharampur and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan started his political innings on Thursday by kicking off his campaign, asserting that he is Bengal's child and that he is here to stay. Baharampur is known as the stronghold of Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, whose name is yet to be announced by his party from the constituency. «Our Prime Minister Narendra Modiji is from Gujarat but he contests from Varanasi. You should have people's love and capability and desire to work, then you can fight from anywhere in the country. This is my home, so what's the problem if I contest from here (Bengal)? I am Bengal's child. I have come here to stay,» Pathan said when asked about the questions raised about him being an outsider in Bengal. He added, «I have a big team here. This is completely a different pitch but the asking rate is the same. The aim of my team will be the same, which is to score runs faster and win the match.» Pathan also held his first public programme in Baharampur where he was welcomed by local Trinamool leaders, including dissident leader Humayun Kabir, and others. A huge crowd had assembled to greet the new Trinamool candidate here.

Jailed former legislator Engineer Rashid to contest Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla of Kashmir
Awami Ittehad Party has decided to field its incarcerated leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid popularly known as Engineer Rashid as the party’s candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla constituency of northern Kashmir. The party spokesperson Firdous Baba informed that the decision has been taken after consultation with Rashid, who is currently in Tihar jail of Delhi. He has been in jail since 2019, when the National Investigation Agency charged him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He had contested 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the same constituency getting 1,02,168 votes, just 30,000 short of the winner Muhammad Akbar Lone of the National Conference. “Our constitution gives us the right that a person in jail against whom the charges have not been proven can contest elections. Several leaders have fought elections from jail,” Baba said. He informed that the legal team of the party had consulted Rashid in jail, who had agreed to fight the elections.

Why Israel is so determined to launch an offensive in Rafah
Israel is determined to launch a ground offensive against Hamas in Rafah, Gaza's southernmost city, a plan that has raised global alarm because of the potential for harm to the hundreds of thousands of civilians sheltering there. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel can't achieve its goal of «total victory» against Hamas without going into Rafah. Israel has approved military plans for its offensive. But with 1.4 million Palestinians jammed into the city, Israel's allies, including the U.S., have demanded greater care for civilians in its anticipated incursion.

Apple Faces Legal Protest From Meta, Microsoft, X and Match
Meta Platforms, Microsoft, X and Match Group filed a legal petition protesting Apple’s app store policies, objecting to how the tech giant has complied with a federal court ruling that ordered Apple to allow alternative payment methods. The four companies, which have some of the most popular apps on the app store, join Fortnite-maker Epic Games in protesting Apple’s plan to charge a commission for payments made outside the app store. The briefing underscores the extent to which Apple’s rivals and other technology players intend to continue fighting to force the iPhone maker to loosen its tight controls over third-party software.
