How India's tough face at WTO Ministerial conference protected farmers, food security | Explained
13th Ministerial Conference of the WTO concluded with the acceptance of the Abu Dhabi Declaration on Saturday, but missed an agreement in either fisheries or agriculture, as India decided to defend its farmer-friendly policies. “Our objective was that our farmers and our fishermen should not face any kind of harm, no crisis should come, and in that, we successfully did not allow any such decision to be taken that would harm any farmer or fishermen," Union Minister Piyush Goyal said after the conference.

Study: Refrigeration effective in preventing E. coli on lettuce, not kale and collards
lettuce from E. coli contamination, but not kale and collards — types of saag — a new research has found. Seeing outbreaks on lettuce but not on kale and other brassica vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens and others, researchers analysed the tendencies of leafy greens to get infected with E. coli, or Escherichia coli, a bacterium species found in lower intestines of humans. While generally harmless, some of its strains are occasionally responsible for food contaminations and can cause food poisoning. The researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US, infected whole leaves from five leafy greens — romaine lettuce, green-leaf lettuce, spinach, kale, and collards — with E. coli (serotype O157:H7) and observed what happened after storing them under these temperatures — 4 degrees Celsius (refrigeration), 20 degrees Celsius (room temperature) and 37 degrees Celsius (normal body temperature). Overall, a combination of both temperature and leaf surface properties such as roughness and the natural wax coating were found to govern susceptibility to the bacterial contamination, the researchers found.

US to begin aid airdrops into Gaza after chaotic encounter leaves over 100 dead
UN convoy attacked by Israeli forces while entering Gaza strip “In the coming days we’re going to join with our friends in Jordan and others who are providing airdrops of additional food and supplies" and will "seek to open up other avenues in, including possibly a marine corridor," Biden said. The president twice referred to airdrops to help Ukraine, but White House officials clarified that he was referring to Gaza. Israel said many of the dead were trampled in a stampede linked to the chaos and that its troops fired at some in the crowd who they believed moved toward them in a threatening way.

Nine injured in suspected IED blast at café in Bengaluru's tech hub

The blast at Rameshwaram Café was a low intensity one set off by what looked like an improvised explosive device (IED), Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said. Siddaramaiah promised tough action in the case and appealed to the opposition parties not to politicise the situation.

Conagra's agro tech stake sale at discount raises eyebrows
Conagra Brands' sale of a 51.8% stake in Agro Tech Foods at a 48% discount to the market price and the subsequent mandatory open offer at a 43% discount to Thursday's closing price have raised eyebrows on Dalal Street. Market participants were surprised by this move, likening the decision to suggest that certain midcap stocks are either significantly overvalued or face underlying hidden challenges. On Thursday, Conagra announced the sale of a 51.8% stake in Agro Tech at ₹515 per share, despite the market price being above ₹1,000 apiece. The mandatory open offer of 26% to the public shareholders was set at ₹578 apiece, representing a discount of 43% from Thursday's closing price and a discount of 17% from the average price of the stock over the past year. The stock locked in a 20% lower circuit on Friday to close at ₹804.15.
