IBC recovery on companies' fair values up, claims down
insolvency law improved sequentially in the September quarter. However, creditors still took larger haircuts as the recovery against their admitted claims moderated further. Recovery rose to nearly 97% of the fair value of companies derived after they were admitted for bankruptcy resolutions from just over 84% in the June quarter, beating the historical average of 86%. However, recovery against creditors' admitted claims eased to 28.33% from 31.12%, showed data from the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI). The substantial gap in recovery against fair value and creditors' claims suggests stressed firms had already lost much of their worth by the time creditors tapped the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), experts said. This disparity reflects the double whammy of late filing as well as admission of insolvency cases, said Manoj Kumar, head of insolvency resolution and M&A at consultancy firm Corporate Professionals Capital.

How TReDS is revolutionising payments for MSMEs in India
small businesses in India get paid faster, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The system, called TReDS, allows small businesses to sell unpaid invoices to banks and other financial institutions. “TReDS has effectively bridged the credit gap by enabling MSMEs to promptly convert their trade receivables into liquid funds. This ensures that small businesses do not have to wait endlessly for payments,” said RBI Deputy Governor Michael Patra. Small businesses often struggle to get paid on time by their larger customers. This delay can make it hard for them to pay their own bills and grow their businesses.

BoI's CEO Rajneesh Karnatak on penal interest impact and NIM outlook for FY25
«NIM has come down to 2.80%. However, I clarify again, our domestic NIM is at a healthy number of 3.14%. So, definitely there has been some impact with the rising cost of deposit. The NIM has been impacted and also yield on advances are flat, that is one of the basic reasons. And as regards the RBI circular on penal interest, so now we have to book under the penal charges,» says Rajneesh Karnatak, MD & CEO, Bank of India. Let us start off with your net interest margins here. Now, we saw 25 basis points fall when it comes to the NIMs in this quarter, but going forward your cost of deposits has been rising while the yield on advances has been declining. So, what is your outlook when it comes to the net interest margin considering these factors? Rajneesh Karnatak: As regards the NIM is concerned, our NIM we have shown at around 2.80%. However, this is the global NIM. The domestic NIM is at 3.14%. And the reason for this coming down of the NIM is one of the factors is that 15% of our global book is the international book, where the NIMs are on the lower side.
