Indraprastha Gas MD on CNG sales, conversions & Delhi govt’s EV policy
Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, MD, Indraprastha Gas, says “On October 27, we clocked the highest ever sale by IGL of 51.92 lakh kg per day. Earlier, we were just touching around 50 lakh due to this festive sale and plus some of the initiatives that we have taken to increase our dispensing capacity. So we have been able to achieve around 52 lakh kg. And if you see our last annual, that was around 46-47 lakh kg. So there has been an increase of 10 to 12%.” To begin with, your volumes in Q2 have been around 8.3 MMS CMD, and your FY24 guidance was a little bit more. How are you seeing volumes picking up in the second half? Actually, the quarterly MMS CMD volume is around 8.3, as against 8.09 that we had done last year. In this quarter, there have been two major disruptions in the form of G20 as well as the floods in Delhi. So that has impacted around eight to nine days of sales. And the impact of that is around 0.12. So we are hopeful that we will end the year at 9 MMS CMD. Have volumes also picked up in the current quarter? On October 27, we clocked the highest ever sale by IGL of 51.92 lakh kg per day. Earlier, we were just touching around 50 lakh due to this festive sale and plus some of the initiatives that we have taken to increase our dispensing capacity. So we have been able to achieve around 52 lakh kg. And if you see our last annual, that was around 46-47 lakh kg. So there has been an increase of 10 to 12%.

Sebi embarks on simplification of regulations but more needs to be done
Law must be forged on the anvil of foresight, but even the farthest foresight cannot prevent it from being laden with gaps and ambiguities that may be exploited by the unscrupulous. This is the reason why lawmakers often have to engage in the process of revamping laws. However, in the pursuit of making the laws foolproof, sometimes laws can become a tad too complicated or burdensome on those governed by them. Hence, lawmakers must regularly assess the practicability of the norms laid down and consider toning them down, wherever necessary.

US stocks rally as Fed holds rates, prompts hope for end to hikes
Wall Street's major indexes closed higher on Wednesday with the Nasdaq's 1.6% advance leading gains, after the U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged and comments from its top official fueled investor optimism rate hikes were done even though the central bank left the door open for more. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said policy makers would proceed carefully although they were not yet confident financial conditions were restrictive enough to get inflation as low as the central bank would like. Trading was choppy at the start of Powell's press conference but the major equity indexes started to regain lost ground after about 20 minutes, then went on to hit session highs. This was because the Fed's top official «wasn't as assertive about higher-for-longer» rates as he has been in past press conferences, according to Michael James, managing director of equity trading at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles. Charlie Ripley, senior investment strategist for Allianz Investment Management, wrote that while there is still a potential risk for the Fed to raise rates again, Powell's commentary suggests that «the bar has become higher for rate hikes.» Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda wrote that while Powell insisted he was keeping options open for a hike «he didn't seem very convincing.» The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 221.71 points, or 0.67%, to 33,274.58, the S&P 500 gained 44.06 points, or 1.05%, to 4,237.86 and the Nasdaq Composite added 210.23 points, or 1.64%, to 13,061.47. Among the S&P 500's 11 major sectors only two lost ground with energy falling 0.3% while consumer staples edged down 0.06%.
